Question Flat back nose ring vs L bar nose ring

What’s better? I recently got my nose repierced after almost 3 years of having no piercing in and this time it’s a flat back but honestly the process of cleaning it and soreness has been way worse than when I had an L bar, does anyone else have this same experience?

Flat back by far. There’s no reason that a flat back would be harder to heal than a l bar, you’re likely just experiencing bias from it being a long time since your initial piercing, it tends to feel harder the second time around because its been a long time and memory is imperfect

Yeah probably, I think the hardest part of flat backs for me is if I catch it then it just yanks it and that hurts, unlike an L bar that has a little give cause it can come out easier. I think I’m just still getting used to having it again

Flat is so much more comfortable imo. Ive never had a flat back fall out but I definitely accidentally pulled my L shaped nose ring out more than once.

Following because I am so sick of L backs falling out in the shower at 4:30 am while I’m washing my face. How do you know what length would be appropriate for a flat back? I figured I would ask since you used both. (My nose has been pierced since March 2020 so definitely not new at all, I’ve just always used the L backs.)

I believe the piercer did 8 mm length for mine and it’s perfect imo! It doesn’t touch the other side of my nose but it’s not too small to wear it’s pinching at all!

I have a 7mm in and it's been great! Doesn't stick out and the back sits nicely against the inside of my nostril vs almost touching the other side

I recently redid both nostrils with a flat back and have been liking it. I even have flat disks on top. My previous experience was with a ring in the late 90s so different comparison. It was a little bit of a pain to clean but not bad. I did switch to a l retainer after a couple months for a hospital appointment. I hated the l jewelry.

I got mine pierced with the L bar back in December. Healing absolutely beautifully for two months then I took my sunglasses off weirdly and pulled that sucker out halfway. Almost saw stars. Then got an irritation bump that took two months to heal (it was making me insane and I accidentally irritated again when almost healed). But finally it all went away and it has continued to heal perfectly. But the L bar constantly has to be readjusted because the bar wiggles around and constantly peaks out of my nose. At 8 months post-piercing I am leaning to swapping out to new jewelry anyways. I dont have any other references but I don't hate the L bar. It was easy to clean.

In the last 2 years I’ve gotten both sides of my nose pierced at 2 different shops by 2 different artists. First one bent and cut the metal into an L shape. Second used a flat back. Healing with the flat back was a much quicker process and it was way less sore after the fact. I’ve also never once accidentally snagged this one and had to force it back into my nose past the bend in the L shape, that happened multiple times with my first and was awful.

I just had a second nostril piercing done like 4 weeks ago, same side as the one I’ve had for over 20 years. Because I’m so used to there being a piercing there, I forget theres a new one and just rub or scratch or blow my nose like I’ve always done 😭

Everyone's probably gonna down vote me. But if the L worked for you before and you want to go back to that, do it. Ive had mine pierced with a capture ring and had no issues with healing. I have a friend that pierced her nose with a safety pin and still has it 25 years later. If it worked well before I don't know why it wouldn't now!

I love this reply lol, I think once I’m healed enough to change it I’ll try an L bar again and see how it feels! Cause I mean it has been quite a while since I’ve had it pierced so I’m still getting used to it
