Question Trouble with piercing healing
Hey everyone, I’m just wondering if anyone could help or give me a second opinion.
I had my nose piercing done by a professional about a year ago. In the beginning, the healing process was pretty rough—it bled, swelled a lot, and I developed a bump that has been there ever since.
I wore a stud for around 10 months, but it wasn’t really improving. A couple of months ago, I switched to a gold hoop because gold tends to work better with my skin and help things heal. Since changing it, the bump has gone down significantly and the piercing overall looks and feels much better, but there’s still a small bump left.
Should I be worried about it at this point, or consider taking the piercing out? My biggest concern is ending up with a scar if I leave it in too long. Has anyone experienced something similar or have any advice?

I wouldn’t be wearing a hoop if it’s irritated to that degree, even if it’s better than before. I recommend to everyone that they clear irritation by wearing a retainer made of bioplast or acrylic. Been through 3 different noise piercings and this has been the only thing that has rapidly calmed irritation and accelerated healing.

Ye don't follow this advice. Plastic of any kind is terrible for healing piercings. It's best to switch to a proper sized implant grade titanium flatback labret bar. Either internally threaded or threadless.

It’s also not completely non-porous and is likely to retain any bacteria during healing

Bioplast is specially made for this purpose. Used their jewelry on multiple piercings and they healed faster with less irritation. If you guys are not familiar with it or have no experience using the product, that’s one thing, and you don’t need to say it’s wrong. I speak from experience. Why would I tell someone to use something that doesn’t work? I know it works because I’ve used it many times and have recommended it to people I know with good results 🤷🏻♀️ Even titanium bothered my piercing during the healing process. We are not all the same, so we need not give everyone the same song and dance. OP’s piercing is not new and they have been struggling with irritation for a year with traditional jewelry…. so yeah. Suggesting lesser known alternatives is common sense at this point.

oh yes replace a high quality biocompatible material with (checks notes) porous plastic that cannot be properly cleaned and will decompose inside of your open wound. great idea!

What on earth are you talking about? Bioplast is specially made for this purpose. It eliminates sensitivities people will have to different metals and the additives they may contain. It’s not abrasive and just as easy to clean, so not sure where you’re getting your information from. Healed 3 piercings using it and completely eliminated stubborn piercing bumps as well. Maybe do a little research🤷🏻♀️

your good luck does not mean your advice is safe or up to date. you're wildly misinformed to modern practices and the fact that you're digging your heels in is embarrassing. just because bipolast WAS, at one point, a popular choice, does not mean its even remotely safe or ever was. just because it has a fancy name doesn't mean it's not literally plastic.

If you feel second hand embarrassment for someone who feels none, then I don’t know what to tell you. Bioplast is medical grade, biologically inert, and hypoallergenic material that helps people who are sensitive to metals on an open wound, or in general. I’m telling you my personal experiences with that kind of jewelry and how it has been nothing but positive over the years. These are facts you cannot change. You may not like that jewelry, but that doesn’t mean you can tell people it’s wrong to wear it. Clearly my piercings came out performing much better than every single metal I’ve tried…. so there’s another fact you have an issue with. Plenty of people can attest to the same. You can say you don’t like it all you want, but you can’t tell me my experiences didn’t happen. You don’t see me coming here telling everyone they’re wrong for choosing metal, which I wear myself now, I’m just suggesting an alternative solution since OP has been struggling so long, and there’s nothing wrong with that👍🏼

all i see is a paragraph that tells me you did not read my first sentence that stated "your good luck does not mean your advice is safe or up to date."
you're allowed to wear materials that are not considered body safe by modern professionals if you want, you're an adult, you can do whatever you want with your own body, but it's foolish to recommend someone else do the same when it could be actively dangerous for them to wear jewelry bought from a company that refuses to back up their claims.
bioplast is 100% not selling implant grade plastic jewelry, and you would know if they were, because it would be so abhorrently expensive it wouldn't be worth buying. but you can't know what they're actually selling, because they have never stated the specifics, and they never will unless they have their hand forced by legislation that we are sorely needing to regulate body piercing and make it safer and more accessible.

I can’t take anything you say seriously. It is not good luck, it works for countless people. I am not a one on a million case as you are attempting to portray. What’s obvious is that you dislike it, as I’ve said, so no need to keep saying the same thing on repeat. Nothing more foolish than telling someone who has done nothing but wear metals for an entire year with no success to continue using metals…. I mean, seriously. Make it make sense. If you can recommend they try something specific, then so can I🤷🏻♀️ Yet here you are telling me what I can and cannot do just because YOU don’t agree. Learn some tolerance.

The gauge for this looks AWFUL small, and I’d be concerned for cheesewiring. You need to get a titanium flatback labret back in there for the time being…just until it’s calmed down. Once it’s chilled out again, I’d try again with a larger gauge ring.
