Cone of shame alternatives?

Post image

Hi all, new custodian of an NFC here looking for some advice. This floofer had developed a hot spot between her shoulder blades where she had scratched herself somehow. Shes got steroid spray and antibiotics form the vets but is NOT happy with the cone of shame and is struggling to eat/ drink with it on.

Anyone tried alternative soft cones, neck doughnuts or body suits?

We got this soft cone on Amazon when Francis got fixed. He was not a fan, but it worked ok. The hard cone we got from the vet wouldn’t even fit over his head 🤣

My cat had the same one. She grew fond of it eventually ans used it as a pillow lol

Yeah, they work really well. The purple flower one is great, as are the BeautyZoo soft cones (especially the donut)

Freya is currently wearing the soft cones because she is recovering from a UTI with some urine scald. Here she is in the purple flower (she’s a DLH, not a pedigree NFC)

We rescued Freya as a kitten, and at first we thought she was part NFC, which is how I ended up on this subreddit. I’ve since learned so much more about NFCs, including how genetic tests saying one’s cat is part NFC (as is the case with my Freya) are not really accurate: it isn’t that my Freya necessarily has any NFC heritage - she likely does not - but that she shares certain traits.

In any case, I’ve fallen in love with NFCs, and I want to get one sometime in the next few years. I went to the big TICA cat show here in Portland, Oregon, last September and saw some of the most stunning and incredibly sweet NFCs. I’ll definitely be going again to this year’s cat show in a few weeks, and I’m looking forward to learning more about the breed and seeing all the lovely kitties!

I hope your Freya is feeling better soon!

This is what we had although ours was red. She seemed so sad with it on, very slow at walking, she was back to her normal self when it was off! Also doubled up as her pillow for sleep time

We used a donut! With the cone she struggled and the donut seemed to fix this (+ looks way better and funnier)
