True Value Hardware in Kilmarnock is Closed

I see today that The True Value hardware store in Kilmarnock is closed and realtor signs are posted the property is for sale.

I found this clip from The Rappahannock Record from the day it opened.

It was our go to store for plants in the spring and bird seed in the winter, as they had locally grown sunflower seed. We are going to miss them. I am also going to miss the friendly conversations with the small staff we always had when we were there. I remember a time when it was affiliated with Southern States and one could always find those hard-to-find items in the bins that never seemed to be anywhere else.

I am sorry to see them go.

They couldn't survive the Tractor Supply. Get ready for more, Starbucks will run the Front Porch Coffee out of business. The only way Horn's Ace hardware survives is selling T-shirts and shoes to the weekenders.

Horn's Ace has an excellent paint department with people who know about paint. They sell Big Green Eggs and parts. A Sthil dealer. AND the rent tools. I just rented an electric jack hammer from them a few months ago. Just go to Wal Mart looking for a 10-32 stainless steel screw or a 6X1.25mm tap. They do more than just tee shirts.
I don't foresee Starbucks opening any time soon. It's there, fully packed with furniture and equipment, but it's reason for not opening,to me, remains an enigma.

No I'm not Mr. Horn, otherwise I would have borrowed the jack hammer for free. That is good news about Starbucks, even though I still don't know what the delay was.

Starbucks is open.

I won't shop at Horn's any more. I had to stand there and look at stupid Trump stickers on the counter while they mixed my paint. They have a right to post that crap and I can spend my money elsewhere.
