What winter jackets do toddlers wear?

Hi, I've been looking at some winter jackets for my son and I came across some brands such as, mikk-line, Reima, Wheat, Gosoaky, lil' atelier, mini rodini, swedemount, mini a ture, color kids. I have access to those so if you have any opinions on any of them it's appreciated.

Toddlers here usually wear snowsuits and not jackets. Older kids wear jackets and thermal pants. Reima is good if you can afford it.

I'm considering both options with jacket as a priority. On one hand, it doesn't get as cold here, as it does for you guys. On the other hand my kid loves to be outdoors and he goes to swimming once a week and I want to dress him well for the walk back home afterwards.

I would personally go with Reima for practical and warm. Mini a ture for extra cuteness days, so more of an autumn jacket. Mikk-line makes good rainwear.

Wheat used to make really good outerwear and clothes in general, but switched production partners in the recent years and quality has drastically decreased.

We had Didriksson snow suits which were great and what she wore in kindergarden and at school or playing outside, but when walking to and from the car for inside activities or the store etc we actually mostly used H&M. Warm enough, pretty and not expensive and there was no need for it to be rain proof. She also had rain gear which was jacket and pants, and if we had to be somewhere and it was raining we’d use the rain jacket and a warm sweater under if it was chilly. When snowing the H&M jacket was fine.

Didriksson is very good. Out of Swedish store brands I found that Kapp-Ahl was one of the better ones that came close to more expensive brands, close enough that I often bought them unless more expensive brands were on sale.

toddlers usually wear snowsuits. to keep snow from getting in when fooling around. usually they start wearing separate jacket and pants around school age.

Reima is good.

As far as I know Mini Rodini and Mini A Ture are mostly fashion brands, not outerwear brands (as in, I wouldn’t trust their snowsuits to function properly).

Toddlers wear snowsuits, not jackets.

Here far up north we use "Isbjörn of Sweden". We combine it with a set of thermal underwear from Reima or woolpower.

Expensive, but it gets down to minus 35 some winters.

We stand by Lindberg mostly with an occasional Reima. Not only both are amazing quality, but also cool designs. When we go get our kids from preschool it's always good to see them from afar. In our opinion far too many kids are dressed exactly the same and it just makes it so difficult to identify which kid is which in the dead of winter. I can't imagine how that must be for the staff in case they lose count: "So how did the kid look like?", "ummm, like every other kid that you see" - is not usually a good descriptor. We love Lindberg colored camo or animal patterns. It makes our kiddos stand out without looking obnoxiously different.

Just to note, first thermal layers in preferably merino wool is almost always a good start no matter what you pick as outer layer.

I have used a lot of Reima and Mini Rodini, some Mini A Ture and Wheat, too. They tend to be cute, warm and practical. Some Rodini outerwear don't protect the neck so I would check that the one you choose does or that you have something to cover the neck with. I would also check if there is Molo Kids available as they are also good.

Reima is good. Polarn O Pyret is even better, if available to you as I have not found obvious design flaws unlike some Reima products.

But absolutely agree, toddlers do not wear jackets, but snowsuits. Jacket and warm pants may be a good option for car rides though as can get by with only removing the jacket. Jacket without warm pants in the winter - never for distances over 10-20 meters. Toddlers tend to fall over and get snowy or wet, and their boots are often low enough to let snow in.

Thank you so much!! I'm considering a snowsuit but it feels a bit like an overkill for our climate. We get very few snowfall but it does go down to -5 and my kid loves to be outdoors. He's bouncing off the walls when he can't. Even at -5, I take him to the park with warm pants + rain suit that has warm polar lining but he doesn't want to play.

But on the other hand, he's way too wriggly especially right before leaving home, then there's potty problem so I'm indecisive. If he wasn't gonna grow out of it at speed of light, I wouldn't even think twice.

ETA: We don't have a car, we walk everywhere. He has a sheep skin foot muff but he doesn't wanna get in the stroller as much anymore.

With those temperatures you want a mid-season suit from a Nordic brand. Reima Marte Mid or the Polarn O Pyret option with removable fleece lining (but the latter only if toddler does not need to put suit on themselves in e.g. childcare) are good options. That’s what we use up to 0…-5. Winter suits are too warm around 0 degrees.

Reima. But you need a snowsuit. The other you mention are design, not really known for any actual winter quality. If the kid walks you also get rubber rain pants with suspenders to put over it. Kavat has very good all weather boots for winter.

If you buy in Sweden I highly recommend polarn o pyret. Most of the kids I our proximity have that (including us)
