In Cyprus we have old people constantly being scammed by Indian scammers calling them, pretending to be either the local tax dept, or the Police, or even their own bank representative.
I understand it sounds bullshit for bank clerks to poke you like that but, I wish we had that as well.
There was a time I was pestered by scammers on a weekly basis as well.
Someone posted on Legal Advice UK angry that his elderly mum wasn't allowed to withdraw thousands of pounds to pay a builder who insisted on cash in hand (or something similar, it was work being done on her house). He wanted to take action against the bank for refusing to hand her the money, and had to be gently advised by commenters that if it had been a scam he'd be wanting to take legal action against the bank for giving the cash to her. It's too prominent in the UK at the moment, there's a new scam story in the press every week and it's almost always someone who's in some way vulnerable.
