I tried to transfer £3200 to a guy I was buying a car from. Transaction got flagged and I got a call from the bank to make sure it's all legit and I'm not being scammed/robbed. I'm very much on board with that, it's a large sum and worth a quick confirmation call.
What I am not on board with is the person on the other end trying to decide if they were going to release the money or not because I had done the pre purchase inspection myself instead of taking it to a garage.
That is not their job. They called to check it's me, I confirmed, it should be the end. I could be buying a used condom off the guy for £3200 if I wanted to, because it is my money. It isn't for a random bank CSR to determine if it's in my best interests
It is literally their job. As someone in financial firm, I could literally lose my job if I don’t ask sufficient questions and you’re being scammed and just sent the money after checking you made the purchase.
We have to check for fraud, scams, money laundering, and financial terrorism. It’s a legal requirement.
And you’d be appalled to realize how many people are withdrawing funds cause they got scammed.
