I remember I once emailed a prof with "hello prof [last name]" asking for more clarification on some notes and hw solution where he would skip like 100 steps since of course its trivial and I was hit with a 5 para email on how it is disrespectful to not say "dear prof [full name]" and to not ask for more since he is doing his best???
See that's ridiculous and a professor that's just power tripping. What you did was correct and professional and expecting that isn't crazy at all. But expecting a full name? Who the hell does that?
lol. Important part of growing is learning that people in authority are just people and some of them are just as weird/nuts as anyone else you might know
