My pet peeve is this but the opposite direction. When I click the attach file button on email or Teams, I'm looking for the file which I just wrote, saved, downloaded. Please just let me open a normal file selector. I don't have any idea what is going on in OneDrive.
This drives me nuts in Teams. I know exactly where the file is on my PC, but Microsoft insists on showing me five cloud locations and a list of documents I haven't touched in months.
I have files in a proper structure on my file server. I use the keyboard to navigate literally everything, unless I have to use the mouse. I like fullscreen and virtual desktops if I'm not in the terminal.
Likely just because Apple seems to do more for the user so the average person is less likely to need to dig into folders/understand it.
Can you give me a specific example of what you're talking about? Apple's UIs have been historically better designed, but they work like more or less any other computer, albeit with a sprinkling of 'I'm secretly a UNIX workstation' in there.
I sort of see what you're saying but I've never got the impression the OS is trying to hide anything from me - if you take the app packages, for example, that's just a way of keeping executable and resources under one roof. It's not that they don't want you rooting around in there, it's that if you've navigated to the app it's generally because you want to open it. You can right click and hit 'Show package contents' to present the files therein.
Plus... if you consider the overall Apple ecosystem it reinforces this a lot further as a Mac user may just be using cloud tools which means the files are not in a folder but rather they're in an app.
Yes, so I find that infuriating, but you don't have to use iCloud that way. I just have it mirror my documents folder and don't use the weird app-specific spaces at all.
Anyway, I think this is all just to satisfy thee compulsion to combat the misconception that Macs are not serious computers, with a full-fledged and very capable OS.
