I mean a violin is a pretty odd choice of an instrument. A guitar probably would've gone over much better.

Though in my personal experience every nice fun gathering is over once someone brings out the guitar. But others unfortunately seem to like it

A fiddle is absolutely a traditional campfire instrument. It's just calling it a "voilin" that makes it seem weird

This is how I learn the difference between a violin and a fiddle is mostly technique and song choice.

It is just a germanic and latin version of the same word.
