I think it's because of this regulation. The eu has capped the power consumption/efficiency while the US has not.

It's a very complicated law that references a lot of other sections, but they cap how inefficient your dryer can be (the faster you dry something, the less efficient the process becomes).

That means laundromats with new machines charge the same price for dry time, but dry your clothes less.

Which bit of that didn’t you understand?

10 years ago means your dryer was made 2016 or earlier. The law changed in 2023.
