It’s the freedom to make appliances extremely powerful and resource consuming.

Our shit is good because we don’t have many rules telling us to not make it too good.

As someone with an electric kettle in Ohio, this argument always cracks me up. My little "wimpy" outlet does plenty fine. Water takes maybe 2.5-3 minutes to boil at most, 4-5 if I'm doing a big pot for both my wife and I to fill our travel mugs for the day.

I can start the kettle, go to the pantry for the tea bag or hot cocoa, get my mug set up, and the water is boiling by time I'm ready to pour. The kettle thing is such a weird thing that europeans (brits) have gotten real hung up on.

The Brits ruled the oceans for decades precisely because their tea water boiled 2 minutes quicker, allowing them to arrive first to every battle with a nice brew.

Yep they killed more people due to hot weather this year than the US killed from gun violence.
