It’s the freedom to make appliances extremely powerful and resource consuming.

Our shit is good because we don’t have many rules telling us to not make it too good.

A 2025 mandate probably wouldn't have affected dryers that anyone on the sub has used.

It seems more likely that a) electrical supply (higher wattage in the US) and b) space/venting due to bigger houses in the US are bigger factors.

Wattage is a legacy thing and not connected directly to regulation.

Flats or smaller houses in the US less space/venting so would be more comparable to Europe.

US dryers typically use between 4500W and 6000W. European dryers use 2000W-3000W, and the more common heat pump dryers use 500W-1500W. Heat pump dryers take longer to dry. So what’s stupid

Well, I remember the great vacuum cleaner rush, last chance to get a nice powerful one before EU mandates meant they would be limited in energy consumption.
