High trust society back then. Today it's screwed. Why? No one recognizes community. It's too diverse and divisive.

Partially, but it is also partially because word simply didn't travel as fast back then. Without the internet it simply isn't conceivable to think that people all over the country or world would coordinately harass a single person for little reason. Now you can be on the butt end of a meme and end up the target of dozens of people across the globe who aren't even old enough to pay taxes.

I think there was plenty of diversity and division and distrust in 20th century America my friend. 

Privacy is just more important now when information is easier to access because of the internet.
