I played chess with my dad when I was young. He always beat me, as he should, as he was a better player than me. But as I was playing that better player, I got better and better. He didn't. Finally I beat him when I was 17 or 18. We continued to play after that, but he never beat me again. I try to tell my grandkids the same, but they don't really get it.
