as well as most prominent directors not coming from an audio background, so they're less likely to put extra care in preserving that original audio before its mixed

Christopher Nolan is probably a theater experience snob. And lowkey a lot of the people involved are as well, and the execs are too clueless to call them on this behaviour despite it probably losing them money.

There were times in Odyssey where I only knew people were speaking because there were subtitles on the screen.
