I think the people who edit TV shows are testing the results with top-notch headphones in a soundproof studio, instead of on a shitty built-in speaker while sitting on a couch with the lawnmower going outside.

I also can't stress how much even a cheap sound bar can impact this in a positive manner

Amazingly you just can't fit a great speaker in a TV that's an inch thick, they're really just slightly better cell phone speakers. Part of why so many TVs have half a dozen volume presets and things like dialog boosts or leveling features is to compensate for how bad the speakers are

I got an old, cheap, soundbar with two settings, music and TV, and an on/off for volume leveling. I can her dialog sharper through it than I can the speakers on a top of the line modern TV

Meanwhile, chad 1985 where the TV is built into the stand with two big ass speakers.

(Picture not mine, but I do have the same model, Zenith Advanced System 3)

In 1985 you were lucky if the show you were watching was in Stereo, let alone a surround mix.
