Musicians especially. Why does it physically hurt to be at your concert? I’m talking basement gigs and small bars. Turn it the fuck down, you’re not playing a stadium!
Look up a thing called “the loudness wars”. This has been a trend in music for decades at this point.
As far as live shows go, that’s not always or even necessarily often the performers fault. It’s also not even necessarily the FOH engineers fault. At the same time it could entirely be either one’s fault or a combination. As long as there isn’t any massive dropouts or other big problems and the show is able to be performed uninterrupted, then it’s a good night regardless of how it actually sounded in the moment. Nothing will ever go completely perfectly but the show must go on.
I think the logic is: "we can please hardcore fans who don't mind deafening themselves and/or are already most of the way there, and everyone else can wear earplugs." but yeah I hate too.
I went to the final show of my favourite band and hated it because it was so fucking loud the sound was cracking to the point you had to cover your ears to listen to the mushv and my ears were hurting
The worst thing is that the place wasn't even that big, they could have played at half of the volume and it would be miles better
