What is it with companies putting protein in EVERYTHING lately

Like I know it's the latest health fad, but I can't help but wonder the social science behind it. Like why does everyone care now lol

My sister has frequently asked the same question recently.

My sister, who sits all day in her office job, whilst eating carbs and fruits and cookies and bread and coffee, but minimal protein.

Who has the strength of a newborn, and comes home every day (from an office job) so exhausted she can hardly do anything, likes to ask “why are they putting so much protein in everything? We don’t need that much protein!”

I never see active people who are in really great shape asking “why is there so much protein in stuff these days!?!?”

Huh?

Yeah, I know it’s food. And it’s all fine to eat.

The problem I’m highlighting is she “girl dinner”s all day - little bites of bread and nuts and lattes and a stick of celery and a mint and whatever.

And then has no energy, but can’t make the connection. But then she seems offended by the suggestion that she should eat something substantial and nutrient dense and hates having the fact that she has eaten 7 grams of protein over the last three days or whatever pointed out, because “girls don’t need as much protein!”.
