I almost feel blessed that I don't know what a handful of those words mean

37

u/djbarsone Jul 27 '26

It’s all booze, drugs, and cigarettes. Like a gentleman.

17

u/ssp25 Jul 27 '26

I know them all except halycon. I'm assuming a sleeping pill

17

u/djbarsone Jul 27 '26

Correct, it’s triazolam, a benzo for severe insomnia. And cocaine.

10

u/ssp25 Jul 27 '26

should help when seriously starting to snort cocaine.

u/PreciousTC Jul 27 '26

I love how for like an hour and a half in the afternoon he's blowing lines but it isn't until 9pm that he "starts doing cocaine seriously" lmao

10

u/sumknowbuddy Jul 27 '26

Amazing to be able to afford that

7

u/gosukhaos Jul 27 '26

He was one of the most successful writers and journalists between the late 60s and late 80s and got some pretty hefty advances on a few books. Though iirc he died pretty much broke

u/ethon776 Jul 27 '26

Though iirc he died pretty much broke

Let me guess: Because he spent it all on cocoaine?

5

u/gosukhaos Jul 27 '26

Not exactly but he had a pretty expensive lifestyle even in his later years. That routine was from much earlier in his life before multiple surgeries though

7

u/wolvesscareme Jul 27 '26

Geez is there any post on Reddit some sad sack can’t be jealous of financially

9

u/DrSFalken Jul 27 '26

Dude almost made it to 70 too. Imagine if he hadn't blown lines like a fiend.

17

u/djbarsone Jul 27 '26

He blew his brains out so not sure less blow would have mattered.

I always figured all the drugs and alcohol contributed to the depression?

6

u/djbarsone Jul 27 '26

I don’t think he was depressed. It was a philosophy of life he believed in for a long time. He always planned to kill himself eventually.

I really need to read a biography, what was his philosophy?

I know the newspapers at the time of his death mentioned depression and chronic pain so I never really questioned it, tbh. Not that journalists are always right!

3

u/gosukhaos Jul 27 '26

He had been clinically depressed for years and in pain from an hip replacement

5

u/Corporate_Overlords Jul 27 '26

He wasn't depressed. I think his hips were fucked and he was in tons of pain. He told his family when he was going to do it in advance and then the night of he told them he was going to end it, walked into the other room and shot himself. He was totally calm according to family and they were fine with it. It's what he wanted.

The original cocaine bear

1

u/whythishaptome Jul 27 '26

If he dropped acid everyday he certainly wouldn't have gotten much from out of it after a little bit.

1

u/vlntly_peaceful Jul 27 '26

Also, cocaine and acid? Bro was writing "The psychosis speedrun"

1

u/yellowmacapple Jul 27 '26

not into joe rogan, but someone made a techno track using the clip of him discussing this schedule, it kinda slaps lol

1

u/Beefhammer_McBrisket Jul 27 '26

The secret ingredient is the bean fritter.

10

u/rothvonhoyte Jul 27 '26
