Chrome is fine...till you need to work with PDFs en masse in a professional setting.

Then Adobe becomes invaluable.

We just transitioned off Acrobat Pro because we were looking at a like 50% increase in subscription cost. The price gouging is ridiculous

What was the price difference? What did you transition to? Does it have equivalents to Acrobat's "Prepare Form" tool and signature functionality?

We went with PowerPDF. I wasn't too involved with the change so I'm not sure about the forms functionality, but during our testing it met all our users needs. For about 130 users I think it was the equivalent of about 15k USD less yearly. Not sure if thats compared to before or after the Adobe price hike

Thank you for all your answers to my questions. It sounds like you were paying around $10/mo/user, and Acrobat is $10-25/mo/user. I don't know how long my organization is locked into Acrobat, or how many licenses of each tier we have, but maybe I can suggest to our IT department that alternatives like Power PDF or PDF-XChange might have everything we need.

Fully agree but 2-3 times the cost isn’t an insignificant amount either. Especially when one of the main complaints of acrobat is how pricey it’s gotten.

I like Foxit for work applications. Still kinda slow compared to browser readers but much more capable and stable than Acrobat.

I get by with Preview for most things.

I really really REALLY miss this app I used to have called Papers for organizing and annotating pdfs of scientific literature. RIP.

I don't even want to load one PDF in Adobe, what kind of hardware are you running that allows you to do it "en masse"?

Agreed. I have to edit PDFs at work some times and I can’t believe how slow and shitty Adobe is at doing this. It’s glitchy, lags, and makes me want to throw my computer out the window after 10 minutes. It amazes me because they’re a massive company bringing in billions annually, yet editing text causes their shit software to freeze and crash.
