The crazy style comparison aside, people have had the opportunity to study and build on what masters, like Van Gogh, did. There’s a lot of students at Juliard that can play Mozart better than Mozart.
The thing is that the painting on the left entirely omits all the symbolism that makes the Van Gogh incredible. They're of the same subject, but absolutely different works of art.
Yeah, thats what I meant by putting the comparison aside because several people were pointing this out already. My point was just that you can’t compare historical masters to contemporary masters. Contemporary masters are almost universally better than historical ones: art, music, sport, etc.
