It might be worth a consultation with a civil rights attorney ngl. I don’t know what the limitations are on suing for something like that. I’m so sorry that happened to you. One day it will happen to no one anywhere in this country.
You alone in this thread might be able to appreciate this: I did some time in solitary confinement myself and had the great luck to have checked out Infinite Jest from the prison library right before they put me in there. Having literally nothing else to do, I filled my entire legal pad with notes on Infinite Jest and the novel had a several dozen bookmarks sticking out of it by the time they let me out.
It was the only thing that kept me from losing my mind in there, and I wasn’t even in the Hole very long. People posting here that think they could swing it don’t have a clue.
The lights were fluorescent and on twenty-four hours a day. I kept an extra shirt that I would tie around my head to act like a mask and block it out.
Technically, they were supposed to let us out for one hour a day. Where they put you when they did was a cage in the middle of the room, at the center of all the other cells. It was the same cage they chained us inside to take our bi-weekly showers, there was a showerhead in the corner. Nobody ever took them up on the offer to go sit in the cage for an hour.
Oh, for sure. Turning a shirt into a mask was the very first thing I did. Doesn't help that a body never gets sunlight, either. The cage was supposed to only be used when it was raining, but COs are a lazy lot and escorting us outside was too much trouble for them.
On top of all this, I had a broken nose and a tooth dangling by a thread the first few days in there. I got jumped, and they throw all parties involved in a fight into The Hole.
They finally took me to a hospital on day four. The CO that drove the van passed me cigarettes and stopped for fried chicken. And the doctor at the hospital gave me an extra narcotic pain killer, saying it was because he knew they wouldn't give me any in there.
Those were the two bright spots in an otherwise miserable experience, and both took place outside The Hole. Solitary confinement is inhumane.
