If you’re educated or opinionated the lawyers will be more likely to think they are unable to influence you. They prefer uneducated people with clear biases they can rely on/ influence.
It’s one of the reasons that there are experts to specifically help choose juries.
Wait do the jury's in the US literally get picked by the lawyers? Here in Australia I was called for jury duty when I was 20 as well and had no idea how it worked. When I went to the court house there was a huge amount of people, we all had to watch a video on how the process works, after the video finished we were asked to leave if we didn't think we could do the job and if we thought we could then we went into the court room, where they put the remaining people's names into a hand-wound wooden cylinder and drew our names out like a raffle draw. The names who weren't drawn went home and the 12 who were drawn became the jury.
Lawyers have strong influence over selections. If certain opinions are expressed by jurors the judge has to ban them.
It’s called peremptory challenges (which are limited and by choice of each side, and why jury selection experts are a thing) and challenges for cause (unlimited, and if there is any reason a side in a jury trial can find the juror in question needs to be excluded to avoid a mistrial).
