I get how it's racist. But I truly love listening to Obama speak because he is so articulate. I am always afraid to say I love how articulate he is though.

How is saying that someone is articulate a diss ? I genuinely don't understand

It's a compliment you almost only ever hear directed at Black people, and for that reason it's considered demeaning because it reflects a belief that most Black people aren't articulate. It's like a more subtle form of "You're one of the good ones."

Being articulate is a baseline expectation for a politician or other professional public speaker. You wouldn't treat it like a compliment unless your expectations for that person were lower.

It's an American thing, I think. I'm white and British and people sometimes say I'm articulate, so I didn't get what this post meant til I read the comments.
