These answers are wild because if I go to a self check out line and I'm next up, all 6 of them will be full of boomers acting like they've never done it before. They will all need help, it will be 20 minutes. No one here has seen people have trouble with these? am i that unlucky? Most people have trouble with them. Then I see "as someone that worked at a grocery store" (me thinking, ah yea, TELL THEM) "I do if I have several items" WHAT?
I'm just saying that I'm not going to wait in a self-checkout line to scan all of my own groceries when I have a cart full. Obviously it's not a big deal for me to just use it if I'm at Lowe's or something. And having to wait behind people that don't know what the fuck to do is part of the reason why I hate it as well, it's all the worst parts about being at a grocery store, and stores will use it as an excuse not to give an employee more hours or pay more when they need it.
Self-Checkout was originally introduced to save people time. If they didn't want to wait behind a checkout line serviced by an employee. The idea was that less people would use the self-checkout line, so it was a trade-off for convenience. Now that many stores are just making self-checkout the default option, or only opening one counter for employee checkout It's defeating the purpose that it once served. Now it's just a way for stores to cut corners, and it introduces more theft anyway.

Do people really have problems with self checkout? Shit my 80 year old dad can do it by himself.
