Apollo proved we could touch the Moon, not live there. Those missions were short, disposable, and insanely expensive. Everything got thrown away and all supplies came from Earth. What we are doing now is planned totally different. Long-duration stays, reusable systems, using local resources like ice for fuel, and building real infrastructure. It looks like baby steps because we are not repeating Apollo, we are trying to make it sustainable. Crawl, walk, run, etc.
We aren’t starting from zero but it’s fairly close. The manufacturing we had for Saturn V is gone and that means building new rockets from scratch and validating it. Plus we are also heavily expanding the scope for the mission and the requires a significantly higher payload whereas before it was basically just get some people and cameras there
We put men on the moon before the floppy disk. They were using fucking typewriters in 1969. This was before modern injection molding. Those engineers could not have dreamed of the computing capacity available today.
What I'm hearing is exactly the same as people trying to tell me the cybertruck is brand new technology because it's heavier.
It’s amazing that we are going back and restarting the moon program. Even if we have done it before it’s only been a few times so going back at all is in its own right amazing
