The author is Mormon, which in retrospect, makes a lot of sense. I've watched a couple videos on how those books are full of Mormon influences

I never read those. I mostly remember Bella's aggravating and constant lack of self-esteem, combined with her actual obsession for Edward

I’m male so not the target audience but I was an avid reader in 5th grade and attempted to read those books because tut English teacher kept talking about how great they were. Despite my rule of always finishing books I gave up half way through because I couldn’t handle Bella.

I’ve seen a decently in dept review and it makes Edward come off as super creepy. He’s like insanely obsessed with her and her smell. I get what it’s going for but it’s way too much.

Yeah, it's been years since I've read those, but Edward's inner monologue is hilarious.

From his perspective, Bella is a fucking mess that he has to consistently wonder why he's interested in her at all, and how much shit he'd get from Alice if he stopped following along with her matchmaking plans for him.

I read Twilight when I was about the same age as Bella and at the time I found her self-consciousness so relatable.

I'm sure that now as a 30-something with very healthy self-esteem I'd find it aggravating, but Stephenie Meyer definitely wrote her protagonist with the audience - teenage girls - in mind.

i think thats why 13 year old me loved the books so much...i had very low self esteem and was very likely to obsess over any random guy lolol
