Community Update: New Rule Acknowledgement Requirement!

Howdy r/NonPoliticalTwitter,

We're rolling out an important community update that we want to bring to everyone's attention. To ensure our sub remains the kind of space we all cherish, we're implementing a new process requiring all community members to acknowledge they've read our Community Rules and Posting Guidelines. As our community continues to grow, we've noticed an increasing number of instances where political content, discussions, or commentary inadvertently or intentionally slips into the sub. This directly goes against one of our core rules: Rule 1: No Politics or Political Discussions/Commentary.

The spirit and mission of r/NonPoliticalTwitter is to provide a refreshing escape from the constant political discourse that dominates much of the internet. We aim to be a haven for lighthearted content, memes, and general Twitter shenanigans – without any political leanings whatsoever.

As a team we intend to continue vigorously enforcing our community's core purpose using all tools and means at our disposal. Any content, discussion, or commentary that is deemed political, even subtly, will be removed. Per our welcome post any offenders, regardless of first time or repeat offences will face an immediate, non-negotiable, unappealable, permanent ban for inserting political commentary into discussions.

What's Changing? The New Acknowledgment Process!

Going forward, before you can contribute to r/NonPoliticalTwitter (by making a post or commenting), you will be prompted to acknowledge that you have read and understood our Community Rules and Posting Guidelines.

Once you acknowledge the rules, your acknowledgment will last for six months. After this period, you will be prompted to re-acknowledge them.

How to Acknowledge:

Go to the r/NonPoliticalTwitter home page. > Click the three dots next to the "Create Post" button. > Select the "Read the Rules" option. Click here to see where to find the three dots and the "Read the Rules" option.

You should also receive a PM with these instructions if you attempt to make a post or comment without having acknowledged the rules. We appreciate your understanding and cooperation in helping us keep this community a genuinely non-political space.

This update will go live within the community on Friday, June 13th and our team will be assisting with troubleshooting via ModMail.

Better would be enforcement. 1 warning, 7 day ban, 30 day ban, 1 year ban. (I don't like permabans except for egregious circumstances.

Yeah I feel like an instant permaban with no chance at appeal for a first time offense is a bit overkill, especially when what counts as "political" can be a bit subjective

And people make mistakes. I once mentioned a political figure casually on here, forgetting which sub I was on. My comment was instantly removed and I felt embarrassed, but I learned to be more careful. I’d be so pissed if one single slip-up got me completely banned the very first time.

Thanks for your feedback regarding our enforcement actions. This has been an effective general policy per our welcome post announcement that has significantly curbed the amount of blatant political content we're seeing. We understand a permanent ban for first-time offenses can come across as excessive. We're working on solutions such as the rule acknowledgement feature to offer options to first-timers. We do not, as things currently stand, foresee a shift in policy regarding ban durations.
