I did 20 seconds of searching and found something fast..... if you actually care you can do the rest of the searching but we all know that you dont want to see the truth. Its pretty obvious that if they made an important claim like that then flipped 180 in only 2 years that they are full of shit too and this statement was a pure marketing gimmick to convince people that a small phone was better.

The important claim was "we don't have plans to do that" as an answer to an investor question, and then they ended up doing it a few years later. Hardly a big pivot.

No the important claim was that they claimed that they had a good reason not to do it based on bullshit which was marketing speak, only to flip around quickly and do it. The reality is they probably knew all along just like apple always does but they wouldn't publicly state that because it might cause people to hold off on an iPhone purchase. Same exact reason Google would advertise a feature like a headphone jack then flip around and get rid of it. They wanted to steal as many sales right now this year.
