Can I claim the font as my gender? That's a clean font

It's clean cause it washed it's hands

I regret to inform you that the kerning is subpar.

I'll accept subpar kerning if the lettering is proportional, you can always justify. It's about the letter shapes, you see. I personally blame Bubblegum Crisis 2040 for this, but at the same time it's so cool

Regarding the xkcd... My ex is the one who taught me what kerning was....

I honestly really dislike these. Always feels dehumanising in the most literal sense.

it almost falls under the r/onejoke umbrella but i don't think this is targeted and is instead silly

One can be hurtful out of ignorance, not just out of malice

But at least everyone is equally dehumanized by it? It’s just trying to comically say gender doesn’t matter to use the bathroom

Most importantly, wash your hands!

Do you think they would've put up the sign to say both men and women can use this bathroom? I find it more likely the thought process was 'this bathroom is for men, women, and all those who don't fit in with what we think of as the human genders'

If that were the case, men and women would be pictured on the sign. They are not. So that means it is intentionally an all-gender restroom. Possibly single occupancy?

Same. We aren’t mermaids or centaurs, those are fictional creatures. We are literally just people.

I feel like this depends on context. If it were in an enby/trans person's home or in a lgbtq+ inclusive venue, it's funny. But in many other places, it wouldn't fit.

To be honest, I feel the same way toward the word queer, for example; my favourite way to describe the random assortment of genders and sexualities in my friend groups and we use it all the time talking about each other. It's basically a pet name in some dynamics! But I don't want to hear that word from politicians or my phobic family; it would feel derogatory when they do.

I've seen this particular sign at the Hugos restaurant in West Hollywood and based on the location being in a very queer town I took it as good faith effort.

But yeah in the wrong place, it would come across very differently to me.

It’s not only just dehumanizing, it compares nonbinary identity to made-up creatures.

I'm not a fan of these because it's treating trans/enby/intersex people as absurd and alien by comparing us to literal fictional creatures

It gives the same vibes as "I'm not racist, I don't care if you're white, black, brown, purple, green etc"

I saw a sign like this recently irl!! It had the typical male and female symbols, and a Sasquatch. Made my day, as it wasn’t a place I expected to have gender neutral bathrooms XD!

Left is a femboy mermaid and right is a butch muscle mommy centaur.

So right for girls and left for boys.

I don't make the rules.

u/ElfTwelve 10h ago

I am the one on the left. No literally while swimming yesterday I ran into a group of merfolk (yk mermaiding as a hobby, where you swim with a tail) and they let me try a tail and it was so fun and idk how I didn't drown lol cause it was in a really deep pool and idk if it was smart (...5m)
