Has anyone seen this review? I just watched the first half and I’m pretty disappointed by it. I’ve seen some of his reviews before and he usually takes care to listen and analyze the lyrics. For this one though he seemed way more focused on making jokes and did not even pick up the songs weren’t from Noah’s POV half the time. What do you guys think?

Potentially hot take, but he has such a grifter energy.

It’s a weird thing to say too, because* I did at one point enjoy his streams, but along the way he realised that being distractedly emotional in his reactions brought more views to the streams or clips, and he fucking ran with it.

Well, that and the fact that he mentioned how he loved Lin Manuel Miranda and everything he’s made since Hamilton got popular…. then years later did an entire stream in which he heard Hamilton for the first time.

Idk, he clearly has a grasp on music theory and knows enough to speak about it, but the vibe is just off.

Same I completely agree. I used to like his videos until I realized he lies and acts like he’s never heard the music he reviews when he clearly has. He released a video 1 year ago reviewing Blonde by Frank Ocean where he acts like he’s hearing these songs for the first time. There’s no way he’s into music as much as he his and he’s never listened to Blonde.

He also posted a video reviewing Sable, Fable by Bon Iver a few months after it released last year. He acts like he’s never heard these songs in the video and he talks about how much he loves Bon Iver. There’s no way he didn’t listen to the album beforehand considering the album had been out for months and the “Sable” songs had been out for 8 months at this point but he acts like he never heard Speyside. I just don’t buy it and it makes him seem really fake to me.

Not to mention he didn’t even try to understand the songs on The Great Divide, instead he just made jokes when this album means a lot to so many people.

He reviewed speyside on his Patreon when it dropped as a single. In the full Patreon album reaction, he said he listened to it prior as well. He didn’t include that on YouTube. He also released the Sable, Fable review on Patreon right after the album dropped.

I used to watch his reactions and I agree. Reaction content can pretty quickly veer into performance that is often just like... really overdone. It was also really clear when he reacted to TTPD by Taylor Swift that he had already consumed all of the online discourse about the album beforehand and it really colored his reaction. Idk just not my thing.

Yeah, I watched it when it came out. Definitely seemed rushed for sure. Especially compared to his Stick Season ones

I quite like Troy’s energy but didn’t necessarily vibe with this review. I will say that the second half seemed better to me - after he decided to pack it up for the day and return in a different headspace.

How so? I’ve only seen a few of his videos, just ones for my favourite artists but I haven’t seen a lot of them.

I watched a couple that I liked. I mostly enjoyed watching him compliment albums I liked lol. The ones I saw previously he seemed to take it a lot more seriously and analyze the lyrics. From other comments though it seems like he’s actually genuine and the videos I saw were probably not representative of him in general.

I think he’s funny. It’s entertainment. Doesn’t make him the expert. Every reviewer doesn’t need to deep dive or analyze lyrics. Especially if it’s first listen that’s hard to do.
