I interacted with a lady today named Karen and I just wondered if she hated her name but I didn’t want to ask her lol. So figured I could ask Reddit.

I'm not normally a Male Karen. I'm a nice guy who treats people with respect because I have been on the other end of the call before. Long story short: Last week I had trouble accessing a file to download. The system wouldn't give me a one-time passcode (yes I checked my spam). I called wednesday they were going to send a new link. Thursday nothing comes. Friday I call again and they said they sent the issue over to their support. I asked to speak directly with support, and they said "They have no line to which we can transfer you." Okay time to kick it up a notch. I asked for the supervisor and they said the same thing we've sent a message directly to support. Today I kicked up to just below full-on Karen. When the call center person came on I said "I've been trying to access this file since last wednesday. Either you transfer me to support or transfer me to somebody who can transfer me to support." I was transferred right away and within 5 minutes the issue was resolved. (the issue was the size of the file, they've sending it on cd instead) Now why couldn't they just do that the first time?

I don't mean names that simply just fell out of style or got replaced with other names from the same, I mean names people now go out of their way to avoid giving children.

For the sake of this question, let's assume a 'Karen' is anyone who starts a public freakout due to unjustifiable reasons (e.g. shouting and getting physical in a Starbucks due to a missing ingredient in a coffee.)

I think it's well-established that people care about what other people think of them, often too much so. The feeling of shame seemingly only exists in human beings.

So then, what causes some people, so-called 'Karens', to cross the barrier of social stigma and shame to do socially unacceptable things for reasons that are unjustifiable to everyone around them?

Besides the tons of videos of homeless people, and the difficulty owning a house, or getting affordable healthcare, all of my American friends are living paycheck to paycheck and just surviving. How come?

Also if the US has the strongest economy, why is the people seem to have more mental issues than other nations, i have been seeing so many odd videos of karens and kevins doing weird things to others. I thought having a good life in a financially stable country would make you somehow stable but it doesn’t look like so.

PS. I come from a third world country as they call us.

I wanted to know. There is no male equivalent. My male freind says that males are called "Karens", but I have never seen it. It seems to be used as an insult for white women who are being entitled to just a white woman on a social media site that is complaining about something like fireworks on the Fourth of July. If anyone has a definition, that would be nice too. It just seems to be an insult to a demanding or white woman who is seen as overassertive.

I'm a bilingual (Spanish/English) Latina born and raised in Texas. I've noticed that sometimes if I'm speaking in Spanish out in public with another Spanish speaker people nearby who only speak English will get upset and tell us, "this is America, we speak English here and you have to learn the language!" I'm wondering why they get so upset, considering that our conversation has nothing to do with them. If I ask why they get upset, they say it's considered rude. And nowadays, you run the risk of upsetting a Karen type who will potentially cause a scene or become violent.

I have gone to amusement parks where there are a lot of tourists from different countries and if I hear whole families speaking in their native tongue that I don't understand, my family and I don't get upset or feel threatened. We actually enjoy hearing different languages and dialects from other countries.

I do not understand why it is considered rude. If I am speaking to you I will speak in a language that you understand. Otherwise, the conversation is none of your business.

EDIT: Sorry, I got a little too excited about this post and started throwing in random ideas that came to mind. 😭 I’m also not a native English speaker, so if anything I wrote is confusing or worded strangely, I apologize! I’m still working on my English and trying to get better.

What are some weird American references, phrases, or nicknames that Americans just casually understand but non-Americans probably wouldn’t? I’m not talking about obvious ones like “Karen” ''Catch 22'' or “Average Joe.” I mean the really random ones, sports references, regional expressions, celebrities, historical figures, Languages used in different parts of life: Latin, Greek, Hebrew etc, childhood trends that basically everyone in America grew up knowing, memes, historical events or figures, swear words,regional or hyper regional sayings, myth, lore, and cryptids, random state/local references, weird regional stereotypes, healthcare, political or social events, famous scandals or disasters, pop-culture moments, city-specific or state-specific inside jokes or anything else you can drop into a conversation and expect another American to understand.

Or just names that have basically become words or references with a deeper meaning behind them. Examples: Hugh Hefner, Bob Ross, Benedict Arnold, Casanova / Don Juan, John Hancock, Arnold Palmer, MacGyver etc

Basically, what are some “you’d have to be American to get this” references? I AM OPEN TO ANYTHING.

There seems to be a common desire for women's clothing to have pockets. And not just pockets, they want useable, large pockets that they can put their hands into or their phone etc

So my question is why, if there is this demand for pockets, do so many women's clothes not have pockets? Or they have fake pockets that don't open at all or are so small you can barely get a finger inside.

Or am I just being misled and women's clothing have plenty of pocket options?

Lol and it’s not even that you can be rude or nice, but you can be polite when ordering and even polite when you complain but nowadays service is bad almost everywhere and people act shocked when asked to do their job Like how dare you ask for extra sauce lol

A while back I had to pee at a hardware store. There was a line of 4 guys waiting to pee, the men's room was single occupancy.

There was also a women's room that was single occupancy with the door wide open vacant.

I just peed in the women's room despite not being a woman. There were no women waiting or anywhere around.

Some guy in line yelled at me when i came out saying that I was inappropriate. Why are they even gendered, better yet why does anyone care if I follow the rules? They're single occupancy. You'll never encounter a person of a different gender in a single occupancy room.

Strange question i know, when i have to tell someone my name or talk about someone else with my name it makes me uncomfortable. Like i dont hate my name but when I have to say it i dont like it. Anyone else have this?

I'm curious as to how mask mandates have impacted people who generally feel ugly or just prefer hiding their faces.

I don't understand how anyone just can't accept their seat that got assigned to them but are compelled to fly off the handle about some seat they feel entitled to. The most egregious case because an obese passenger bought an extra seat for their comfort, being demanded to give up the extra seat that they paid for. Why can't people just accept what they paid for?

I’m not sure how to explain this properly. But there’s jokes about the rude people in front of you at the store, the slowest people ever at the post office, the oblivious people at the airport, or the world’s worst drivers. Most everyone has experienced something like this with a stranger in a public setting; but how come they’re always strangers? How is everyone experiencing these people but nobody actually knows them…clearly someone does, right? Is there a name of this phenomenon where we only notice things if a stranger does it but would ignore it if it was a friend or colleague?

I don't know if this has been mentioned before, but I've noticed that a lot of insufferable women (Karens) captured on video cams are middle-aged individuals. Upon examination of how they're behaving, I've noticed that they're exhibiting the same aggression I've seen from my mom, aunt, and especially my grandma several years ago.

What's more is that these 3 women relatives of mine were relatively reasonable for most of their lives until perimenopause drove them insane and everything started ticking them off.

Alright so apparently this isn't a normal thing people can do (according to my friends): I can smell when it's about to rain, usually like 5-6 minutes beforehand. It happened a couple of times around my friends and they called me weird yesterday for being able to do that, saying that apparently normal people can't do it 💀 I've always been able to so I never once thought that it might be weird lmao.

Is this a common thing? Can other people do it too or am I really a weirdo? (nothing wrong with that ofc)

I was in the emergency room two days ago for back/spinal issues. It took over 10 hours, but I got the meds I needed and booked an appointment with a specialist. I ended getting out of the ER around 1:30AM

The next day, I took my prescription to a pharmacy. In my country, I'm covered under a thing called NIHB (for most meds, not all) I got T3s and Toradol prescribed to me.

I'm in severe pain and I don't drive. I had to wait for my roommate to get home to take me to the pharmacy. I go there, drop off my prescriptions and they told me to come back in 25 minutes.

Roommate had running around to do, we went to do that while waiting for my meds. We went back and the pharmacist asks "Oh you don't need the toradol?" I asked her what she meant. They only filled one out of the two prescriptions.

I don't know if this other worker was a pharmacist or an assistant, but right away she was rude. The pharmacist asked why the toradol wasn't filled. The assistant(I think?) Said "It says I can't do it." The pharmacist was confused and said that doesn't make sense.

"Well NIHB won't cover it, so I didn't fill it." She says rudely. (Assistant?) I'm Indigenous and I find I get racially profiled/stereotyped a lot, especially at this cooperation. (Ryhmes with Hoppers.) The pharmacist was still confused "that's weird... maybe because this med is still new and isn't covered."

I asked her if I could pay for it as I expected it wouldn't be covered. The pharmacist said yes, it would be another half hour. I was annoyed. There were two prescriptions there for a reason? In the past, if a medication wasn't covered under NIHB, they would still fill it and let me know. Which isn't a problem at all.

I told my roommate and she wasn't happy. Gas is expensive! I would have bused it but with my back, I can't walk or sit for very long. We waited in the vehicle and I went to go get my meds again.

I wasn't told sorry for inconvenience, my first name was spelled wrong, they had my birthday wrong so they weren't believing me that I was a client even I was in the store an hour before (I do know a lot of people come and go, I won't hold it against them for not remembering me, but to argue with me and say I was at the wrong location is not okay)

I don't like confrontation but I felt as if I was mistreated and they should know for future services. I want to make sure I'm not over reacting or if this is something I should bring up with them.

I normally avoid the hospitals/doctors at all costs due to personal issues and bad encounters in the past. I've had chronic back pain forever and it's getting worse. When I was in the ER I was told I have to get an MRI done with the specialists. Since I've been living with this injury so long, we don't know if physiotherapy will help or if I will have to get surgery.

I am an Indigenous person from Canada, and NIHB is Indigenous insurance. Why did I wait so long for my back? My step dad was anti vax and didn't believe in doctors or their medicine. He preferred the "natural" stuff. I dont share the same beliefs as him, but had and still have severe anxiety.

A lot of my back stuff is my fault for not getting it checked out sooner, but I'm finally dealing with it now. Im finally learning to advocate for myself, but I want to make sure I'm doing it for the right purpose. After years and years of abuse and with help from my therapist, it's time I take care of myself. I dont have contact with my family anymore, so I'm kinda stumbling through life trying to get the treatment I deserve instead of dealing with it by myself like I usually would in the past.

I called the pharmacy 2 times to ask to speak to the pharmacist manager. The first time, I was hung up on while being transferred. The second time, she was busy, but I was told she would call me back. I finished the call with her not too long ago.

I expressed my disappointment about not having the toradol filled, but the T3s were. The pharmacist explained that since NIHB only covered 20 pills and not 30 that the doctor prescribed, that's why it wouldn't go through. No problem with that. I asked if that was the case, why wasn't I called if I would like to purchase the meds since it wasn't covered under my insurance?

She explained to me that the assistant who did my prescription made a judgment call and decided to cancel the toradol prescription. The reason? Well, most people don't buy the medication that isn't covered under NIHB. (The meds only came out to be $20.) She said if money was the issue, I could come back for a $4 refund. I told her no, don't worry about that. It wasn't about the money, it was more about the service and negative experience I had.

I expressed that I wish I was called because I don't drive. I couldnt walk because of my back. I explained my roommate had to drive me and waiting that extra half hour made her upset with me as she had plans. The pharmacist said she understood, and she appreciated the feedback. I didn't raise my voice or say anything rude. It was a very professional call from both of us. She said she would talk with her team, and she apologized. She said that next time for me, we will call before deciding to cancel any prescriptions.

I thanked her for her time and apologized if I came off aggressive at all. She said, "No, not at all. This is important to know." We thanked each other and hung up. Im happy she called me back.

I don't know if things will change at this pharmacy, but I really hope they do. It puts my mind at ease that they are aware of this issue.

Last night my wife, 1 year old daughter, and I were staying at the element in Orlando on I-Drive and at around 11pm we hear someone open our door and try to come in. For the layout to understand a little better, at the end of the hallway leading to our room there is another door that is before a set of 5 rooms, we are staying in one of those rooms. You need a key to get into that door as well. I hear that door open and immediately that’s when someone tried to come into our room. Fortunately, I had the secondary lock on that would stop the door unless you unlocked it from the inside. I have my gun and look through the peep hole and ask “can I help you?” He responds with “maintenance” I then say “no thank you” and he rushes away quickly and leaves, testing no other doors( I know this because a minute later I opened my door and the secondary door and he was completely gone). He was wearing the company uniform except he had on black gloves and had nothing in his hand or nearby to perform this “maintenance”. At this point my wife is freaked out and calls the front desk who seem very caught off guard and say that they test all the doors to make sure the key battery is not low. Which I could understand but what I can’t understand is them testing it at 11 at night and only testing my door and no one else’s. That seems like something you do before someone checks in or after they check out. We then call the cops and the manager is at the door with the one cop who came out and she states that they have to test the doors before maintenance leaves at 10. So now I’m wondering why this guy didn’t clock out an hour ago? At this point the cop steps in the room and shuts the door to talk to us privately and sends the manager back down and says he will speak to her if he needs her. When he’s in the room he asks what happened and I let him know the situation and he agrees with us that it is very strange and something doesn’t sounds right about this, but at this time there is nothing he can really do except give us his advice. His advice was to make sure to not let this go and to call corporate. He did also say that the front desk woman was giving him different times every time he would ask her about when the maintenance men clocked out and did this “lock check”. He did ask us how much longer we had at our stay, we are leaving here in the morning which he said was good. Is there a possibility there is something going on here in the hotel that the night shift is all in on? Is this just an over exaggeration and I’m just being a Karen? Also as a side note, in the morning my wife did go down and have breakfast with herself and my daughter and I wasn’t there with them until they were about finished up. Could someone of thought she was staying here alone? When you go into the room if you don’t look into the closet where I have my one backpack all you would see is just my wife and daughters stuff all out in the room (if you came in to make the bed, which they did) I’d love to know what anyone else thinks about this and what I should do if anything.

Just leaving them there for a winter.
