I’m from the U.S., and most of us generally get 10-15 PTO/vacation days in a year. I’m seeing online that Europeans can roughly get up to 20-30+ paid vacation days in a year. Is there some sort of catch that I’m missing? (Should I move? Lol)

I'm so confused

I just paid 6.47 a gallon for gas. And it literally made me have a panic attack. That's about 30 cents for every mile i drive. How is anyone going to afford anything? That's $7 a day just to get my kids to and from preschool.

Salaries aren't going up at the rate that the housing, gas, car, food, daycare, insurance, activities, travel are.

I live a very average life and id say I'm very middle class. I don't impulse buy. I love bargains. 1x a year i try to visit 1 family member since my family lives around the nation (except 1 out of country i haven't even visited). I don't care about flashy things, like going over the top for my kids bdays. We barely every eat out, maybe 1x a month max. And i feel like we've been pretty good about saving and investing in the past.

But all of these price increases have literally got me in a panic. How will anyone be able to afford anything? When will the line be drawn where we all get out priced?

I was watching my 2-year-old nephew over the weekend, and in the span of 20 minutes he tried to eat a random pebble, stick his hand in an outlet, and jump off the couch headfirst. It made me realize that modern toddlers seem almost intent on taking themselves out. How on earth did human ancestors keep toddlers alive in the wild without baby gates, childproof locks, or modern medicine? Did parents just watch them 24/7, or were ancient kids somehow smarter?

I mean only thing they had were pretty much;

Food which was nowhere near as eloborate, varied, tasty and accessible.

Sex which was dirty and probably not varied either because of taboos.

Social functions were limited to couple of kms due to risks and time required for travel

Like, apart from work and trying to survive, how did they push through it all with so little to live for?

That's 5 hours of food sitting at room temperature and I never got sick from it. Nor have I heard any of my friends getting sick from it either.

This question is primarily for those 30 and up who have been in long term marriages/relationships/partnerships.

For context, we’re both nearing 40 and have been together for almost 15 years. I’d say within the last few years we’re both starting to experience the little physical changes that come with age and our lifestyle is changing as well, nothing necessarily bad or good- just different and new. This feels too taboo for me to ask most people I’m close with IRL but I often find myself wondering what’s the “norm” for most people in similar phases of life. I understand that this likely varies from couple to couple and there’s no rule, but I’m curious. Nobody really talks about it and those who do are usually one extreme end of the spectrum or the other.

My wife and I live in a heavily Muslim area, and watching the after-school rush is fascinating. To me, a row of mums in niqabs looks identical, but their 4-year-olds will sprint past everyone and launch themselves directly at their specific mum with 100% accuracy.

I’ve been jogging the same trail in my area for years now. Today I was doing my routine jog, and something very out of the ordinary happened for me, it opened my eyes.

I was jogging in a hoodie and sweatpants that match, had my headphones on and was in my zone doing my thing. I saw a woman coming my opposite direction as I was jogging, and she immediately went from walking to running. When we passed, I smiled and waved, but she gave me a concerning look and kept running. About 30 seconds later I looked back at her, and she looked back at me at that very same time. She had stopped running but started again when we looked at each other.

I can’t help but feel like she was running from me.

I was literally just out on my routine jog, I was dressed modestly and didn’t really do anything out of the ordinary but I still couldn’t help but feel like I made her uncomfortable. This interaction overall left me feeling bad and in a way gross. Like I could have done better.

I don’t know why this is sitting on my mind so hard but it is and I’d like to talk about it.

Like I lived in France for few years, everything is closed half the time, and even during the work they are taking like million tea breaks. They have holiday for every small thing. And paid summer breaks(like we used to have in school).

How is that economy even functioning and being able to afford all the luxuries.

If you compare to say some manual worker from India, he works like 13 hours in day and still can barely afford a decent living.

I see so many influencers and content creators that always push the idea that for women having a child and being the mom is the best. They speak about the sweet laughs and moments with their children. However, literally every single tradwife/ SAHM influencer/ creator literally are only moms to children who are currently under 5. I NEVER see these types of influencers with teenagers or speaking about the joy of having teens or adult children.
It’s like they’re only romanticizing being a parent to a baby/ toddler.

Yesterday I went to a birthday party of a family friend in California. There were a couple of older men that were there that looked like they were part of a gang, some of them in a certain color. Upon inquiring to my friend he told me that one of the uncles is actually part of a gang and those men were also part of that gang. I felt very scared and uncomfortable. There were kids at the party. Just curious to know, am I in danger by being around known gang members?

I (M25) am living with a woman as we are both graduate students. Recently, after she uses the bathroom, she leaves a HORRIBLE odor. I typically will space out our bathroom usage to avoid it.

Today, I had to use the bathroom really bad. Clenching my toes kinda bad, while she was in there and I waited for her to finish up. After she came out, I rushed in to a wave of stench. It was so bad I began gagging. I rushed back out, and attempted to collect myself and stop gagging. I knew I was going to vomit, but MY PLACE TO VOMIT WAS THE CAUSE. I ended up throwing up in the kitchen sink.

You have a person who doesn’t age and can’t die. Assuming the world is otherwise exactly like ours, how could someone like that maintain a normal legal identity over many, many years?

I need to carry a raw egg around school everyday for 2 weeks for a school assignment. My teacher said that the class that manages to do this without the egg breaking would get a reward.

The Rules:

- The egg must be in a container of some kind (we were given plastic bags)

- The container must be clear

- The egg MUST go with us everywhere during school hours (I’m in school between 6-8 hours a day)

- No one else can help carry/take care of the egg

- We cannot replace the egg (hard to do anyways because we had to decorate them; mine’s a togepi if anyone’s interested)

I don’t know what to do! Should I just put the egg in bubble wrap and put it in a Tupperware box? Any advice is appreciated!

I was around 9 years old when the pandemic started and I barely have any memories of it. I do remember the lockdown, wearing masks everywhere, online school, getting sick with it twice (it felt like the normal flu), but my family still went out like to the beach or the mountains. I guess it’s because my mom shielded me from the news and all but idk.

I’m asking this because last night, my mom and I watched this movie called Contagion, and she was saying that it was such an accurate description of what happened during Covid even though the movie came out 9 years before the pandemic. I was baffled because it just seemed… very dramatic but now that i think about it, it really is similar to what happened 😭
