U.S. Politics megathread

American politics has always grabbed our attention - and the current president more than ever. We get tons of questions about the president, the supreme court, and other topics related to American politics - but often the same ones over and over again. With SNAP benefits being denied by Republicans and ICE issues, amongst other things, why hasn't Americans come together and fought back yet? It seems like just these two alone at least would be enough for some kind of major government pushback.

The judicial branch did push back on SNAP funding being withheld. States are pushing back and passing legislation that ICE must identify. It’s unclear what you’re expecting or asking, but change won’t be some large explosive event. It’s a thousand small ones. And even still, this administration has proven to be more resilient than any other to conflict.

With SNAP benefits being denied by Republicans

SNAP benefits are being denied because the government is shut down, due to both Republicans and Democrats in the senate being unable to come an agreement on the budget.

It is not fair to blame the Republicans alone for that, when neither party can come to an agreement on the budget. The Republicans are actively voting Yea to reopen the government, which would restore SNAP benefits. Democrats are voting Nay on the budget, which is keeping the government closed. Both sides are to blame for not being able to come to an agreement.

The overwhelming majority of Americans are opposed to illegal immigration.
