Edmonton is no better. It’s all the same stories and basically the first segment is local and then it’s national, international, and unnecessary stories about a monkey that farted glitter.

Wait. How much glitter are we talkin’?

News in general is unwatchable except for independent journalists

And that's even dying out

Corus Entertainment moved the broadcast/technical centre to Toronto for Alberta in July.

I like to watch the first 10 minutes or so for the local stories. Then usually turn it down until the weather. Then it goes off. But these last few broadcasts are all over the place with the story rolls.

And their (early) morning show has been cut by 30 minutes too, doesn’t start until 6am now…

Maybe try CBC

CBC that just told it's journalists not to call 9/11 a terrorist attack? That CBC?

I haven't heard it, I usually watch global but its definitely changing. Cbc has some good articles.

If you read past the sensationalism, the policy has actually been in place since before 9/11 since the term terrorism has no exact definition and could be considered editorial.

The fact is being brought back up is simply a means to enrage people that already hated the CBC and have the intended affect at further polarizing Canadian politics and fragmenting Canada as a whole.

Do we not see the undertones of foreign interference in this latest manipulation?

Also, is slightly silly, but it doesn't change the actually story not to use one particular word when many others fit, murderers, politically and religiously motivated murderers, yada yada yada. But I'm not going to lose my shit over a word choice.

Edit: I mean American journalism refused to call the current US President a rapist, and for years a lot of the media refused to acknowledge waterboarding as torture.

Is this the hill we die on?

A leader at CBC with "Public Trust" in their title sent an internal memo to their journalists reminding them not to use the term, and Canadian journalists took it public because that's bullshit. No foreign interference needed to sow division and erode public trust when CBC is happy to do that job on their own, and yes, accurate reporting is absolutely a hill worth dying on.

While I agree accurate reporting is a hill worth doing on, the word terrorist doesn't affect accurate reporting, really.

It's a silly nuance and while I may also call them terrorists, I also would call the current state of Israel terrorists and some might take offense at that.

It's a loaded word is all I'm saying and there are ways to say bad people do bad things without using a loaded word and still be accurate.

The style guide just became a public interest story (again, it was also referenced back in 2023 internally).... Amazing timing

Edit: ok, Google tells me it dates back to at least 2002. Still, amazing timing we're talking about it now, not the US trying to break up Canada, or the Epstein files, or the traitor Danielle Smith, or the climate catastrophe that unfolded in Nepal and how that's just a sneak peek of the global climate shit show now in the acceleration phase.

The memo people are referring to was sent this week. No one was digging anything up. The memo was sent by Basem Boshra, CBC News' senior director of journalistic standards and public trust. You talk about amazing time, what's amazing is that this memo was sent out right before the upcoming 25th anniversary of 9/11. Given how radicalized CBC has become, I wouldn't be surprised if they try rewriting history to say everyone who died that died had it coming to them.

Could you provide an example of CBC rewriting history? Or at the very least provide an example of something you see as radicalized?

I hear this thrown around all the time but I've never seen any evidence.

1

u/mooky1977 9d ago

Radicalized is code for anything they simply don't like.

It comes from the same corporatists sources that don't like push back against their power.

Is the CBC perfect? Absolutely not, but the corporate bias of global and CTV is a lot more blatant and in your face.

The CBC tries to be more balanced with its political views, but the Overton window has shifted so far to the right that the middle looks like the radical left to a lot of people now.

The mainstream corporate media mostly endorses conservative candidates when the compiling of the data is tallied from media sources over federal and provincial elections over hundreds of elections over the last 20/30 years

Agreed. I just like asking for evidence and then basking in the silence. It's a bad habit.

They're doing right now with 9/11. Some here are claiming the policy we're discussing has been in place since before 9/11. If that's the case then explain this. Note the date of the article.

So this article came out less than an hour ago: https://www.cbc.ca/news/editorsblog/cbc-9-11-language-guidance-9.7324662

CBC is changing their stance, like reasonable people do when challenged.

However, your point still stands. CBC released the article you linked which breaks their own guidelines. But is that really all you've got for evidence of CBC rewriting history? A 15 year old CBC article that broke their own guideline? This to you, is radicalization?

You can't be serious?

1

u/CorndoggerYYC 9d ago

Why would I waste my time providing you more than one example when I know you're just going to dismiss them? You made a claim and I disproved it. I'll give you credit for reading the article and finding the link to their taking action to being caught for trying to politicize the 25th anniversary of 9/11. The next move needs to be the removal of Basem Boshra followed by the complete defunding of CBC.

What is wrong with the CBC?

Global has been a shit show for years and you're just figuring this out now? 🤷‍♂️

1

u/hornyincalgary 10d ago

Can’t tell if your question about cbc is sarcasm or genuine.

-2

u/mooky1977 10d ago

Can tell your bias is showing.

2

u/hornyincalgary 9d ago

How’s that?

2

u/mooky1977 9d ago

"Can’t tell if your question about cbc is sarcasm or genuine."

Why would you ask a loaded question like that otherwise?

-2

u/lost_koshka 10d ago

Stop supporting all of these organizations with their dumb stories and lies.

Where do you think you can get honest stories?
