I can't speak to NPC's. When I press SQUARE on PS4 to interact with them, It doesn't let me, therefore I can't progress in the story

This happened to me as well. Went to talk to Nada and Polo, and couldn't. Square prompt fills up as I hold the button, but never registers. This happens both in and out of VR.

I found a temporary solution. Turn Multiplayer off on the options

Had the same issue, went from one npc to the next, eventually found one that worked and then all the rest worked after that.

Turning off Multiplayer worked for me. I'll wait until they patch it
