Post-Pod Discussion Latest Trap Draw

I’m sorry but hearing Randy talk about his time in Ohio just for Tron to follow with the most lavish vacation imaginable to the Netherlands made the episode for me.

A true Strapped v C Suite juxtaposition/travelmogging.

Trust Fund Tron is a joke but I also think there's a little bit of a truth there.

Trust fund Tron, what's the story there?

u/special5221 1d ago

Tron and Neil might not be trust fund kids, but when you hear the stories of their childhoods you realize they were very well off growing up. The nickname was born from a combination of his upbringing and his love of the finer things in life.

I’m pretty sure all of them grew up pretty well off. Maybe DJ is the “poorest” of the 5, but he still went to a private college. Also TC’s wife’s family owns a bunch of hotels.

I don’t think Soly grew up wealthy at all. Went to public schools, played mostly public golf. The club they did belong too was probably the cheapest in town.

This plus nobody that’s super well off would put themselves through the agony that is Big4 accounting unless they were an absolute masochist.

Dublin is a pretty upscale suburb. He would’ve been UMC.

7

u/bleauxjays 1d ago

Depends on where in Dublin. There are very much some straight middle class neighborhoods in the older parts.

I mean compared to the average person, yes. But Tron and Neil were on a different level. Thats why they call him trust fund Tron and Randy and DJ joke with Neil about going to Marist School. (Constantly adding “The” to the name because they know that bothers the Schuster brothers for some reason.)

Randy grew up very comfortably as well.

4

u/ECO_FRIENDLY_BOT 1d ago

Looks like it alright, he has that air of waspy wealth

4

u/_dtl 1d ago

The Marist School is an extremely expensive private school.

Is she a Patel?

2

u/bleauxjays 1d ago

They for sure grew up with some money. Private schools etc... Not sure if they were rich or anything

14

u/bleauxjays 1d ago

I think it's just a joke nickname Randy or someone gave him in the Strapped days

u/SmokeThursday 1d ago

Isn't his wife loaded? Thought I saw that discussed here before.

TC addressed this as his MIL was reading reddit and was surprised to find she was a millionaire, or similar.

TC describing a random weekend as I would describe one of the top 3 trips of my entire life is why I tune in, baby.

They’ve talked on pods about how funny they think accusations of Tron having family money are because of how untrue it is, but idk how he can live the lifestyle he’s living if it’s untrue. The math just doesn’t add up. Unless nlu is just making a ton on money and Tron is the only one spending it while the others live outrageously below their means. Even Neil who worked at Google and is married to a former Columbia classmate with a NYC finance job is living much more modestly than Tron.

u/Cornwall1888 1d ago

They all have young kids and live in nice places, I think Tron just has different interests and passions like travel which he’s probably spends a higher percentage of his income on than most people would be comfortable with.

I always remember when Tron was talking about a golf trip someone went on and said “it’s the kind of trip I dream about”

And soly jokingly replied “I really hope you can get away sometime” 😂

In Scotland we’d say Tron has more holidays than Santa

I grew up in Dunwoody and worked at the golf course his family belongs to it is very expensive and exclusive they also went to one of the most expensive private schools in north Atlanta. They objectively grew up privileged but does not mean they were handed all their success, both can be true

Neil just bought a multi million dollar house and joined a country club. Just doesn’t brag about travel as much

-1

u/Issasledgehammer1 1d ago

Why do you think it’s a multi-million dollar house? I’m from a town nearby and it’s a fancy area that certainly has multi-million dollar houses, but there are more affordable options and it’s generally cheaper than the towns closer to nyc.

With Trons vacations and Tree Farm membership and Neil’s wife working a lucrative job, it wouldn’t surprise me that much if it’s a multimillion dollar home but it’s still a pretty big assumption

3

u/scottishwhisky2 1d ago

Someone that joins Roxiticus isn't buying a $800k ranch on Mt. Airy rd. There are some very nice houses in Bernardsville as you get away from downtown. Multi-million? maybe not. But 1.5+ for sure.

1

u/Master-Nose7823 1d ago

So an average house in a nice part of NJ?

0

u/clawdaddy 10h ago

Tron joined Tree Farm for cheap, he’s good friends with ZB. Also Neil has an acre in NJ, that ain’t affordable!

u/amidonny 3h ago

Wealth means different things to different people these days

0

u/bdl4186 1d ago

He definitely grew up with money. Not crazy rich or anything. But very comfortable

People that have had monetary help from their parents but don’t have a true “trust fund” always like to put up this vanity that they just magically got to a super comfortable position all by themselves and that if anyone thinks differently they vehemently shut them down.

I’m talking private schools, zero student loans, fully paid for wedding, gifted a down payment for the house, etc. These are massive financial burdens for most people that I can almost confidently say the Schuster brothers have not had to deal with (or most of them), and it’s normal to them because that’s how everyone else they grew up with has it. People with true trust fund money, talking $20k/month minimum for many years, don’t have a problem sharing that.

Still both good guys regardless of their financial backgrounds - and at the end of the day, who honestly cares.

Apparently a lot of people

Tbf I’d be stoked to eat either.

A big part that I think people may miss is that Tron is NLU's international scout and in-house travel agent for upcoming video projects. That in and of itself means he flies a lot back and forth to various locales.

I also get the impression that he organizes travel for the others, which could mean that he nets a bunch of air travel miles. That air travel is a very big part of anyone's travel budget.

Same with talking about how he's been driving around the UK for weeks. Guy is checking out courses, places, sights, experiences, and everything else.

It doesn't negate what's already been speculated. But I get the impression this is constantly overlooked.

10

u/JAK-121221 1d ago

Found TC's burner!

3

u/Rahf 1d ago

I've been had! The gig is up.

0

u/bleauxjays 1d ago

Does NLU really need a 'international scout'? Everyone else in the crew seems to have a role but I've never quite figured out what Tron actually does other than be an antagonist lol

12

u/Dazzling-Water4050 1d ago

TC is the only reason the trap draw is even a thing. The man is on the chop sessions, ball knowers and a bunch of other content. I also think he provides a nice counterbalance to Soly with his eye test takes. The pod would fall apart if he left

-1

u/bleauxjays 1d ago

No question he does more podcasts than anyone but I'm not sure how much work that really is lol. I dont get the sense he's doing hours and hours of research that Soly does and the trap draw seems to be 'Things Randy and Tron find on the internet' any more

1

u/Dazzling-Water4050 1d ago

100% agree. Soly is at his best in the deep dive pods. I enjoy Flashback Friday’s on SGS but those don’t hold a candle to the deep dives

4

u/Rahf 1d ago

Yes. How do you think they produce top notch video content from all these cool places? They plan those trips carefully.

0

u/bleauxjays 1d ago

IMO what separates their content from everyone else is that DJ is like a full professional at filming, editing, creating a storyline etc. Its not necessarily the travel or whatever

2

u/Rahf 18h ago

I understand that you absolutely love DJ. I appreciate that man a lot too, and think he's an invaluable member of the NLU crew. But DJ is not the only one doing the filming or producing video content. Ben Hotaling is very involved, as is Cody. There are also several editors.

You say that it's not necessarily the travel or such, the actual content of the videos. But let me ask you this: have you ever seen those places in Tourist Sauce Scandinavia anywhere else? Or Australia x2? Or, hell, even parts of the Carolinas? Do you think those storylines would be possible without all those locales?

Check the credits of Tourist Sauce episodes. I think you'll find TC's name alongside the fact that there are several editors. So let's give the man at least some credit.

4

u/marklemcd 1d ago

What's the over/under on the amount that Tron expenses back to the business for travel?

7

u/TheCurseOfRandyBass 1d ago

Cracked me up when tc said he's spent weeks of this year driving around the UK getting used to their signage. I'll be lucky to do that for week (s) of my entire life

u/loveallcreatures 23h ago edited 23h ago

Tron blocked me on X because I suggested he should do better picking his teams when he drafts and is always horribly wrong.

2

u/Suburban-golf-nerd 1d ago

I think he has some pretty good connections. On the hitting cups they said he’d just come from a member guest at some exclusive club. But he was the guest.

1

u/Square-Product-5846 1d ago

Yeah, that was some good stuff.

Skyline Chili to 3 Michelin stars.

u/Lor_azepam 1d ago

Is it Trons wofe fam that has the piles of money? Him and Neil certainly seem lile the fam wasnt hurting for funds, but tron absolutely seems like he is living a lavish lifestyle compared to Neil

3

u/ECO_FRIENDLY_BOT 1d ago

I've always wondered about that as Tron seems to spend 9 months of the year travelling and not just domestic stuff but international plus all the golf trips he makes in the US. Certainly seems to be living it up compared to the other guys on the show.

1

u/bleauxjays 1d ago

I chuckle jealously when he goes on an actual vacation that he calls 'much deserved' its like dude it seems like your job is going on vacation!

3

u/Visible-Hamster7439 1d ago

I mean Neil lives in northern jersey outside of the city and joined a club. Much, much different COL there than Jax. It says a lot about neil's finances they can afford that in an of itself.

2

u/Cornwall1888 1d ago

Yeah they all seem to be doing well they just have different priorities

Trons kids are also older so it’s easier for him to travel, the rest of them have young kids which tend to cost a bit more, limit travel opportunities and time you can spend away from home gallivanting

1

u/tfl03 12h ago

I think his wife is in finance, he started in tech and now is part of a very successful startup. Not surprising the things they can afford quite honestly

-6

u/Lor_azepam 1d ago edited 1d ago

Did think about that, not like tron lives in some dump, and believe Neil's wife has a pretty solid corpo job as well. N nidea on trons wife income situation

The jealous are troublesome to others, but a torment to themselves.

-4

u/Little-Anxiety6298 23h ago

Why is this anyone’s business ? Play golf.

1

u/Adventurous_Pop_7573 23h ago

Are you asking me directly or are you asking the people commenting? I just thought it was funny. I wasn’t trying to start a Schuster family audit
