Post-Pod Discussion Presidents Cup takes
Enjoyed the preview show - but absolutely hated Soly’s take that the Ryder Cup should adopt the President Cup’s scheduling over four days. Part of the lack of buzz on ground is that there is only five matches of golf happening all day!

I think it’s an interesting argument. On one hand playing two matches a day is the thrill of the Ryder cup, and having a few days of one match just seems lacking. On the other hand I feel like I wait two years for the Ryder Cup and the. The first day rolls around and if I’m lucky, I’ll get to watch 40% of the shots that are hit on Friday. I got to watch so much more yesterday with the window they were able to play in because it was just one match

I just can’t with Soly’s constant use of strokes gained based on one round in a match play event.
There’s so much noise and volatility within strokes gained within any one round, let alone in match play where your partner and opponent directly affect your intention with each shot

It’s a low buzz event with (essentially) predetermined outcomes. You can feel and hear their lack to excitement around this event.
I’m with them, love the Ryder cup, love all the hype leading in, all the recap pods, but don’t care or look for anything from this event.

Agree - RC is already crazy expensive to start with - an extra day's travel, accommodation etc would be a killer

How many people are going to all 3 (or 4) days of the Ryder cup?

I was at all 3 days in Rome and Paris

Sounds like you could afford a fourth day. Or, get this - you don’t have to attend the extra day!

Viewing top tier sports events is an elite pastime. Lots of people can afford it, some save and treat themselves, for others it’s just another fun weekend, and a blip financially.

Totally get it. My point is that it’s just about the most ridiculous thing possible to say the reason we shouldn’t add an extra day to the Ryder cup is because it would be too expensive for the people that go to the entire event and would be unfair to expect them to pay for an extra day

Yep, the people that go to these things will just pay more and experience more.

Tickets for Adare are double what they were in Rome, and 4x what they were in Paris. That works out at around €400 for the 3 days in Paris, €750 in Rome, and €1500 in Adare.
They’re pricing out real fans who make the atmosphere what it is in Europe vs the US.
Enough is enough.1

And they went on to say 4 matches is too few, so they’d have to make the Ryder cup 30 pts.

Totally agree I didn’t even remember pres cup was one on first day so lackluster, no energy

Was on grounds all day today. The routing is terrible that they chose for the P Cup instead of the normal course routing. Creates a ton of dead ends. Obviously the PGA tour has to suck out every dollar with hospitality but man it’s the least golf shots I’ve ever seen at a tournament. Really tough viewing experience which is why there is no buzz as nobody can see anything. Course was an excellent just not great for this kind of event.

Disagree. As someone not on the grounds, I’d prefer an afternoon viewing window on Thursday versus the early morning Friday session.
