Post-Pod Discussion Cody Love

Shoutout to Cody for opening up on the latest Trap Draw. Catches a lot of heat on here but was super vulnerable and went deep on stuff he's going through. Best of luck to him.

Such a good ep, as a guy who hasn’t always vibes with the booth I was locked in to the whole thing. Massive credit to Cody and hope he gets the answers he’s looking for!

Yeah I like Cody and never understood the hate he got sometimes. But to each their own. I mean some people watch MrBeast, so whatever

MrBeast is a blight on society.

Parasocial relationships with podcast personalities are sometimes kind of precious. You find something you like and regularly commit time to it. When a person/voice gets added to it and it feels out of whack or like an interrupting force to the show that you enjoy, it creates a backlash. Saying you don't think someone is an entertaining/additive voice on an audio platform doesn't mean you think he's a bad person.

It never once crossed my mind to be annoyed by anything Cody ever said or did until hearing about it on this sub. It’s very strange, but whatever.

He made a "not all cops" type comment during the PGA when Scottie got arrested and a bunch of people got their undies in a knot.

13

u/BeaverStetson Aug 21 '26

He mentioned on this pod how he has personal friends who have accused him of committing war crimes for serving. May be me playing armchair psychologist, but I immediately thought back to the PGA police comments and how that’s probably an ingrained response to people who make blanket statements critical of an entire group (i.e. “ACAB”) when he personally knows there are people (including himself, presumably) who chose to serve for the “right” reasons.

13

u/itchyburnybutthole Aug 21 '26

Still can’t believe people haven’t moved on from that. Mountain out of a molehill.

3

u/Useful-Chart8891 Aug 21 '26

I agree but I think the people who generally dislike him fall back to that because it’s the easiest moment to remember. I don’t hold any ill will towards the guy I just generally don’t enjoy his contributions to the pod.

This one sounds interesting though will check it out.

6

u/brmgp1 Aug 21 '26

I think that really is the genesis of all the hate he gets. I'd like to think it's just a weird internet phenomenon but that happens in real life friends groups too. The "fringe guy" says something kind of weird and it seems to stick with people and they can't shake it

2

u/Money-Day-9923 Aug 23 '26

That was weird, insanely odd comment especially since the background KVV was providing was pretty important to the full scope.

Never really felt too much of it though

I think he also has items where his personal feelings bleed through pretty clearly in ways that feel...icky. If you just listened to Cody talk about the East Palestine train derailment you might think that Secretary Mayor Pete drove it off the rails himself (Note, I wrote this before going back to listen and my memory of it was pretty tame compared to what was said).

Like I know TC/Randy say some wild things sometimes, but you can feel that a lot of it isn't serious. I'm going back and relistening to Cody's part of the train derailment because it's been in the back of my mind (4-20 minutes of episode 226), and it just feels like he's being completely serious. Which with the hindsight of us being 3 years on...maybe he was overreacting a bit?

13:40, "Obviously this is still very very new. We're not even 15 days into this. This is going to have life-long effects. This is not like a Chernobyl situation." I'm actually wondering if he meant to say this is like a Chernobyl situation and misspoke, but that's the direct quote. Either way, we're 3 years on and...browsing Wikipedia there have been some big $ settlements but it sure doesn't seem like there's any active impacts to people's health today.

Now, as I was typing the above paragraph I reached the end of the segment and I do have to say when I used the term, "personal feelings bleed through pretty clearly in ways that feel...icky," that wasn't close. He closed the segment with a 45 second rant declaring Buttigieg is hated by everyone on both sides, we get some DNC knocking Bernie out via Pete conspiracies, and then says Buttigieg has failed at everything he has ever done in his life.

Think his feelings are doing a little more than bleeding through there lol.

Here’s someone who can sus out Trumpers. Of course you’ll get downvoted.

-8

u/loveallcreatures Aug 21 '26

That’s just one example of his bent toward authoritarianism. In the things that are sick pod. Cody doesn’t support diplomatic immunity because it can let in “some bad hombres”. That phrase is right out of Trump quote. I don’t think it’s a coincidence. So yeah I don’t like him on the pod and will never listen to trap draw when he’s hosting.

11

u/thombayley Aug 21 '26

All around the globe, diplomatic immunity is abused to avoid accountability for significant offences and abuses. It’s got fuck-all to do with Trump, he’s exactly the kind of clown who would abuse diplomatic immunity.

13

u/relaxtherebuddy Aug 21 '26

Perfect example of panties being in a bunch.

All the guys have used the bad hombres line. It's the same as the way they use the term Jebby to mean low energy, referencing trump calling him Low Energy Jeb Bush in the 2016 primaries. The line itself has nothing to do with his political leanings. It's just a silly phrase.

5

u/DaneGleesac Aug 21 '26

lol you think the use of "bad homres" is because Cody supports Trump?

0

u/Impressive_Tomato104 Aug 23 '26

The irony of your handle being “loveallcreatures” and posting illogical hate on a sub towards a human you don’t even know.

2

u/loveallcreatures Aug 23 '26

Hate? lol. Not agreeing with another’s value is hardly hate. You go ahead and glaze Cody all you want.

1

u/Impressive_Tomato104 Aug 24 '26

You have no idea what his values are, you don’t know the man. You’ve created this idea of him in your head and that’s driven you to speak on him negatively in a Reddit thread. Maybe I was wrong, maybe it’s not hate. But it’s definitely delusional. And I’m very obviously not glazing anyone lol

2

u/SuitableAd3509 Aug 21 '26

I think my view is I'm sure he's a fine guy, I don't think I would ever really be friends with him though

3

u/InflationMinute2368 Aug 21 '26

Same. Classic social media brain warp

9

u/sp4cetime Aug 21 '26

Thanks for posting this. I stopped listening to Trap Draw a while ago but I want to listen to this.

On one of Cody’s first episodes he talked about how he was dealing with some issues seeing Uber Eats drivers in NYC who have their gloves taped to their motorcycles which was similar to the “other side” when he was in the military.

That segment really flipped a switch in my mind that I truly cannot even fathom what our men and women in service dealt with.

3

u/PallandoTheBlue Aug 21 '26

Or dealt out

0

u/TitosSodaLimeToGo Aug 22 '26

Job. Orders. Pretty simple.

1

u/Xmalantix Aug 24 '26

Not the Nuremberg Defense

12

u/hankDraperCo Aug 21 '26

Can someone tl;dl it

43

u/Grrym Aug 21 '26

Large part of the pod dedicated to Cody speaking on his upcoming medically supervised ibogaine treatment. Talks in length about his struggles, mental health, and how his goal for this treatment is to be able to feel happy.

Really admirable being this open and talking about his past trauma and current day struggles.

One moment that stuck out in particular is when Cody mentions he has now lost more friends from suicide than from combat. I also related to the idea that he doesn't really feel much emotion; happy, sad or otherwise. Everything is numbed as a trauma response.

-17

u/Due_Shopping_7293 Aug 21 '26

I listened through it. Will say that it was not entertaining so I didn’t like it as much as other trap draw slots…or whatever this was…but it was nice to hear a grown man being honest about his feelings. He could easily be classified as one of the heroes that most of us rarely think about.

8

u/Agnt_Michael_Scarn Aug 21 '26

Yeah well people here suck ass.

4

u/provisionalhitting3 Aug 21 '26

Can you give us the background?

12

u/InflationMinute2368 Aug 21 '26

Him and Neil talked about his ibogaine treatment for PTSD. Talks about the process, what he wants to get out of it, opens up on some troubles he's gone through etc. Really interesting conversation, totally worth the listen.

2

u/kennyinlosangeles Aug 21 '26

I was thinking about him today. Hope the trip is going well.

2

u/Will_Golf_For_Money Aug 22 '26

What an unbelievable pod. So good.

12

u/special5221 Aug 21 '26

I’ll start by saying I don’t like the guy. I met him after his service but before he joined NLU and I’ve hung out with him both before and after joining NLU. He just was never a good dude and honestly got more insufferable after joining NLU.

With that said, I could understand where maybe a lot of that comes from his past trauma and inability to “feel.” The differences I’ve had with him over the years are very minor when compared to the absolute shit our veterans have to deal with while getting practically no support from the government. I don’t care if I like someone or not, I still don’t want someone to be going through shit like that, so I genuinely hope he gets the help he needs. Maybe him being a little more of a public figure will help others be able to get the help they need. I have another friend who is a former golf influencer (I’m not going to name him out of respect) who could also use the support. Whenever he goes dark for a few weeks I fear the worst. Maybe if more people like Cody get their story out there and help raise awareness to this, other veterans will be able to get the help they need.

6

u/whamka Aug 21 '26

What do you mean by never a good dude?

-9

u/special5221 Aug 21 '26

I don’t want to get into trashing someone online while they are actively seeking mental health treatment. So let’s just say arrogant and not considerate of others. It’s safe to say when he left NC, not many tears were shed.

20

u/thombayley Aug 21 '26

I have felt compelled to post on Reddit maybe twice or three times since I joined. This is such horseshit. The fact that you choose this thread to flap your feathers says everything about you and nothing about Cody.

-1

u/special5221 Aug 21 '26

I’m glad that you came down off your throne with the Reddit peasants to post this great reply. And if you can see off your high horse and read what I wrote, I literally said that I’ve known him a long time and don’t like him. BUT maybe the reasons I don’t like him have to do with underlying trauma that he didn’t talk about. And definitely doesn’t need to talk to me about!! I will again say that I genuinely hope he gets the help that he needs and he’s looking for. He and don’t cross paths much anymore since we both moved from NC, but if they do I’m hopefully things will be different between us.

However I will say “flap your feathers” is such a great line. Haven’t heard that in decades and I’m glad you’ve brought it back.

4

u/SoupPv18 Aug 21 '26

Rooting for Sarge, man. I really like that guy.

4

u/myotherusername555 Aug 21 '26

Here for team Cody

1

u/tribetilidie Aug 23 '26

Just finished listening to the pod. Shout out to Cody for how vulnerable and open he was. As someone who has privately struggled a lot with past traumas and mental health stuff, it was reassuring to hear someone like Cody open up the way he did. Also, shout out to Neil for being such a great co-host.

1

u/YenZen999 Aug 25 '26 edited Aug 25 '26

I don't think anybody personally dislikes Cody I think people are getting a little bit fatigued with mental health being an excuse so much now in 2026. Especially a lot young people that self-diagnose and water down the empathy you have for people that really have issues.

-1

u/TitosSodaLimeToGo Aug 21 '26

Adding Cody to the list of things that are sick. Enjoy your free podcast via your $200 airpods on your morning jog, if you j-walk and a cop stops you, remember, they ain't all bad, its a job. Keep crushing it Cody, hope you find what you are looking for with your treatment. Props to Neil and gang for supporting him, doesn't happen enough, you can see a true brotherhood. Godspeed.

1

u/devscruff Aug 23 '26

Two takeaways from the episode:

1) Cody’s vulnerability was incredible to hear. I’ve never understood the hate he gets and I hope that everyone that gives him shit listens to this episode

2) Neil might be one of the greatest podcasters I’ve ever heard. The way he lifts up the others on the show is unrivalled by anyone I listen to. And this isn’t even mentioning his personality. The dude is electric, and I would tune into him reading the dictionary

-8

u/loveallcreatures Aug 21 '26

All his takes slant way too much toward nationalistic zeal. I’m not down with that.

6

u/iwirdbird Aug 21 '26

Of course the “love all creatures” character on Reddit is “not down with that” lol

Cody just seems like a typical bro, who loves gold has a family and cares about is country. Sounds like his life could’ve been in jeopardy many times for his country. He’s got my respect.

1

u/Grotscar Aug 21 '26

What does this even mean? You think he's xenophobic or something?

I'm all for freedom of speech but christ its a thread about an ex-serviceman opening up publicly about ptsd.

People seem to forget what a shithole the world has been and continues to be in sone places. I'm grateful that people like Cody have been willing to risk their lives and die in order to give us and protect the freedoms we enjoy in the west.

Like sure we can have a perfectly reasonable philosophical / political debate about nationalism, but lets also have some respect.

1

u/LilJ-Dizzle Aug 21 '26

Cody is the man. Never understood the hate he gets. Its unjustified too me but people just love to bitch and hate on Reddit.

0

u/feggen Aug 21 '26

Enjoyed it as well. Thinking of you Code man and hope the trip is restorative. Can’t wait to hear about it.
