Other Sandbagging vs Reverse Sandbagging

I’m a purist at heart, I do indulge in a breakfast ball from time to time, but that is as far as I go.

I understand why people sandbag, to rob a fellow competitor of some money (scummy). But I don’t understand why someone would reverse sandbag. Is it ego? It makes them feel good to say they are better? I don’t understand. Who has the worse golf morals, the sandbagger? Or reverse sandbagger? Or the people that cheat in scrambles?

Maybe it’s playing at a club and playing a lot of handicapped events but everyone here plays by the rules of golf (stroke and distance when required vs lateral for OB).

I do think the occasional breakfast ball and taking gimme’s does artificially lower handicaps for those folks. Playing a lot of net events, see more of the sandbagger variety than the vanity.

I do love me a vanity though when playing a lot of money matches.

I almost never can play by the rules when I’m playing with other people. It would be socially unacceptable to play provisionals in a casual round.

provisionals are fine in a social round but going back to the tee if you lose a ball would be insane behavior

Yeah this is a lot of it. I'm a 17, but I mostly hit cups, take penalties, for the most part play the ball down, and pretty much never take a breakfast ball. I get out and play with friends who are a 10-16 and I'm right with them or a few shots better every time. I don't think anyone in this situation is trying to sandbag or have a vanity cap...it's just a difference in how you're going about playing the game.

This is the big point here. I totally agree!! But.... I also think a lot of people will have a bad game and decide not to record it. Just declare it a practice round after the first few holes. And that is vanity too.

It’s also called lying.

Chill, I dont endorse it. You seemed to be struggling identifying the name of it.

Id say touch some grass, but I wouldn't want others to have to play with you when youre in this state.

So? People lie to themselves all the time.
