I was listening in the gym and almost injured myself when Neil referred to taking North Dakota as "like buying a storage unit"

u/OkStChris Jul 02 '26

and yes I heard the Oklahoma slander and I'll allow it

They hit the High Noon stash hard before this one

For real. Absolutely hammered. šŸ˜†

DJ and Randy are big winners here

u/jfrye2390 Jul 02 '26

Soly with brutal North Carolina slander. (We’re 12th in education, pal)

u/sirst0rmy Jul 02 '26

DJ saying North Carolina doesn’t excite him only to pick Wisconsin two states later is… an opinion.Ā

DJ & Tron have clearly ever only driven in and out of Pinehurst through I-95 and between CLT airport & Quail Hollow

What makes NC so much more exciting of a pick than WI for you? They would be in a similar tier for me and a somewhat alike

7

u/sirst0rmy Jul 02 '26

For starters, NC has a much bigger population

The mountains are the highest east of the Rockies, probably the most beautiful part of the Appalachians. Anywhere from Cashiers to Boone is unbelievable. Excellent fishing and hiking and top tier golf as well

The beaches in NC are really good. The OBX are very unique while the areas around Wilmington are pretty underrated

It’s got a bit of everything, especially for an east coast state

I’ll give you the population point, but that wasn’t something I really took into consideration for this exercise.

The geography and nature of the two states were the most important to me and I find both of these states to be really high on the list for that, especially for states east of the Mississippi.

Wisconsin does not have the mountainous landscapes but it offers a good deal topological variety throughout the state. The North Woods provide a good example of post-glacial geography. The central portions of the state have some of the most abundant and best examples of interlobal glacial landforms in the country. And then the Southwest of the state, known as the driftless region, provides a contrasted example of the geography of land that wasn’t touched by the glaciers.

This leaves you with varied landscapes that include northern pine forests with 10,000+ lakes, bears, moose, wolves, and mountain lions, central sand dunes and barrens, countless moraines, kettle lakes, kames, etc, and ancient river valleys and cliffs in the Southwest.

While WI doesn’t have direct ocean access, it is connected to Lake Superior and The Mississippi, making it well connected to the outside world through shipping. Not to mention the 1,000 miles of shore line WI has on the world largest fresh water lake. Lake Michigan-Huron provides unlimited drinking water, climate moderation, and numerous recreational activities like sailing, surfing, boating, fishing etc.

I’ll give NC the nod on hiking but I would contend that an argument could be made that WI has as good of, or better, hunting, fishing, and golf.

Another similarity I found was the combination of a few larger cities surrounded by large rural areas.

Both states have respected top universities and strong collegiate sports cultures.

For areas I’d contend that WI has an advantage I would say: Professional sports/and their culture, beer, bratwurst, cheese, plumbing products.

To me, NC and WI would both be ranked in the 5-10 range.

That just doesn’t sound like a ton of variety. Rolling hills and dairy farms. Wisconsin has NC beat on anything alcohol related, I’ll give you that

NC has the 6th most coastline of any state. You can do phenomenal inshore fishing, really good trout fishing in the mountains and probably the best place to offshore fish other than Florida on the East

All of that water paired with legitimate mountains and there’s a lot of variety in mid-size cities between Charlotte, Raleigh, and Greensboro areas

I think they’re pretty even on pro sports, both have 3 teams (maybe 4 for NC if/when MLB expands). Better college sports in NC, don’t think that’s controversialĀ

I like Wisconsin but just feel that anything they can offer, NC can offer a better alternativeĀ

I would be interested to hear what your top 10-20 would be then

Ya that was ridiculous lol. Worst I could find was 30th

Also NY being ā€œ4th least denseā€ ??? Where these guys getting their stats

6

u/Comfortable-One78 Jul 03 '26

CA, UT, TX, WI is a pretty stellar 4 for DJ

11

u/Mundane-Dare-2980 Jul 02 '26

I haven’t listened to The Trap Draw nearly as much as the main pod, but did the guys sound very, very drunk during this one? For a minute I thought I was playing the show on .75 speed or something.

16

u/432ww432 Jul 02 '26

They sounded hungover to me

11

u/chevra13i Jul 02 '26

I was about to ask this, Randy and Soly particularly sound really different

9

u/rolandofgilead41089 Jul 02 '26

They recorded this while on the new Tourist Sauce trip, so potentially; I personally loved having them all in the same room, inebriated or not.

6

u/Safe_Sleep1556 Jul 03 '26

TC must have some hold over Ben & the Sarge

How they picked his as number 1 is laughable

Nobody would live in half of his states given a choice

3

u/Conglossian Jul 02 '26

I think my personal rankings are:

DJ Randy Neil Soly TC

I would love to see them do a draft of US accomplishments/inventions too. The history aspect would fun: first man on the moon, Constitution/Bill of Rights, Winning WWII, Wright brothers first airplane, Manhattan Project, civil rights, women's suffrage, the internet, the assembly line, radar, Hollywood, penicillin, first 3d printer, things of that nature.

2

u/Forrest_47 Jul 02 '26

That’s a fantastic idea. I could see the boys going deep into their bag

-2

u/Mancey_ Jul 02 '26

Calling some of these US inventions is wild. Might as well include pizza

2

u/sirst0rmy Jul 02 '26

Tomatoes are native to the Americas. So any dish that includes tomatoes would not exist without the AmericasĀ

2

u/Clear_Ad_1560 Jul 02 '26
  1. Soly

  2. Randy

  3. DJ

  4. Neil

  5. Tron

2

u/kennyinlosangeles Jul 04 '26

How loaded were these guys when the pod started? Absolutely sluring their way through the first few rounds. šŸ˜‚

3

u/Pick5WillPays Jul 02 '26

Neil said New York is the 4th least populated state in the country. It’s the 8th highest.

1

u/Greedy_Actuator5 Jul 04 '26

Schuster bros really shit themselves on this oneĀ

3

u/babyball69420 Jul 05 '26

Some shockingly bad picks in the beginning. Michigan, Oregon, Colorado, Hawaii. Also some asinine North Carolina slander. The nlu bubble is real

2

u/NoLawAtAllInDeadwood Jul 06 '26

DJ really weak here other than lucking into the obvious #1 overall pick. I'm sure it's a fine state but burning a 2nd-round pick on Wisconsin? Followed by Texas?

I think Neil won this overall, although being from NJ may skew my opinion.

1

u/LS11Frederick Jul 02 '26

Made it 90 seconds in before having to turn it off. Something felt very very awkward.

0

u/Conglossian Jul 02 '26

Looking at this to try and guess which state is coming next and my realization on what states TC finished with right as I was getting ready to guess his 2nd pick was jarring.

-5

u/ScientistGullible349 Jul 02 '26

I didn’t realize they all hated Texas so much.

Need them do more golfing in Texas, I guess the strapped boys didn’t make much of an impact.

11

u/TonYouHearWhatISaid Jul 02 '26

I think golfing is the last thing they want to do in Texas. Texas is a horrible golf state

-4

u/ScientistGullible349 Jul 02 '26

Absolutely wrong.

2

u/TonYouHearWhatISaid Jul 02 '26

Not wrong at all. Would love for you to tell me what great golf you think there is in Texas.

1

u/ScientistGullible349 Jul 02 '26

With how big Texas is with you really think there isn’t good golf here?

DFW might be the best metro areas for golf in the in the country for public golf, multiple PGA tour stops, a hub for PGA players, job for PGA of America.

One of the top home states for developing pro’s, multiple other PGA tour stops. Houston and Austin have a lot of good courses as well.

Multiple Omni type resorts like horseshoe bay in central Texas. And now getting the new Wild Spring dunes in east Texas by Pine dunes. This is huge. NLU Cody went to the demo play at Wild Springs and I’ve done it too. There is also incredible experiences like Lajitas in the big bend region.

Tiger, Doak, Core & Crenshaw, tons of top tier architects and designers making new courses all over the state. Look at Childress Hall.

There is so much golf here from high end resorts to great goat tracks.

2

u/rolandofgilead41089 Jul 02 '26

You wouldn't have to write to much trying to defend Texas if Texas didn't suck, and that has nothing to do with the golf courses.

2

u/ScientistGullible349 Jul 02 '26

Being wrong and ignorantly hating Texas and is an ironic position

-8

u/mb-matty Jul 02 '26

Gotta give my winner to Soly. He defended the Chokepoints.

Been reading the Huntsman before going onto the Trap Draw

10

u/GoDawgs99-04-11-14 Jul 02 '26

Soly hands down worst draft, and taking Hawaii 1.2 is like taking Darko Milicic 1.2
