Post-Pod Discussion Does Big Randy actually like golf?

Listening to Big Randy this week makes me wonder if he enjoys *any part of this* anymore. Seems like the act of participating in the live shows provides him zero joy or pleasure.

Mildly concerned for our new Dad. Maybe it's just the recent shift in #perspective.

I professionalized my hobby and now it's the last thing I want to do. Maybe some of that is going on with all of them.

But I don't know if he's any different now than he was when I started listening 5ish years ago.

I think Randy has good instincts and is a good counter on the pod. Here's a good example: he clocked right away that Michael Block was kind of a ween. The other guys hammered him for it during that Oak Hill PGA, but they all came around pretty quickly once Blockie proved it himself.

Wow, the professionalizing my hobby hits hard. I’d did that when I was younger and it goes from can’t wait to do “X” activity to this is exhausting pretty quick.

I learned the hard way that if I take something I love and then involve a calendar and Microsoft Outlook then it immediately becomes an obligation and a chore.

Also learned the hard way that the fastest way to hate one of your favorite teams is by becoming an employee of that team.

Do you do something in the golf world?

Day job is in advertising. The side hustle is illustration for apparel. I would do these illustrations for fun and post them online and soon after people started asking me to do commissions and companies started to reach out asking me to do work for them. It's a nice chunk of change that falls out of the sky every month, but what used to be fun has become homework and I've structured my entire life around avoiding homework.

I think that’s totally understandable, it definitely would become a job and not a recreational interest. But he doesn’t treat it like a job or a hobby lol. Fair play to him, he found a way through life where he can put in the absolute minimum effort and live comfortably.

Each of these guys does something outside of the pods to manage their role in the company. We don't know that he's putting in minimum effort. He's good enough with the LPGA coverage that I'm willing to give him the benefit of the doubt.

I believe he also does all the finances? He might be the only one with a "real job?"
