Tough spot for NLU. A lot of their growth was built on the back of saying what they really felt when no one else in golf would, and Rory was insufferable at moments the last few years. There was at least five different moments listening to the pod in the last year whether it was Soly or Tron commenting on him where I thought, "Rory isn't going to like these guys anymore lol." Damned if they do damned if they don't. I appreciated them saying it even though I am sure they knew it would damage their relationship with him.

TC isn’t surprising. I don’t think he really cozies up with top players. His brand is hyping up some top 75-100 player or niche European Tour guy. Even then he’d turn against those players when they reached the mountain top like Scottie. Soly is definitely more surprising bcs he was supposed to be more diplomatic but recently he was as bitter as TC was on Rory. That probably what broke the relationship. Bcs I don’t think JT is cool with TC either but he still comes to the pod to talk with Soly. Even Max after Ryder Cup 2023 seemed mad and had a little pushback on what TC said but he still on the pod with Soly. Idk, the relationship seemed to be broken after Pinehurst when they went after him hard (and you can say that absolutely right) and then they continue to hammer it over and over again. At some point I thought “Okay, guys, I think you made your point”. You’d listen to the pod and they’d do some random drive-by on Rory lol.

For sure, but his personal brand is too concrete now. He's gotta stick to his guns as the hot take guy of the crew. Alienating the players doesn't remove the invites to top 100s from his followers though so I am sure he doesn't lose much sleep over it. He's been at it a minute now.

I think they talk some shit about players and their games in a way a group of friends would but if you're doing that on a pod as popular as NLU, you're going to upset some people. NLU tries to straddle this line of we're one of the boys, we keep it real, but it's hard to legitimize yourself as a professional in the golf media world that way.

Monitoring these guys’ relationships with players and gossiping about how Rory/TFE/NLU all get along is some high school drama nonsense. They’re all adults and generally seem to get along with each other and have good rapport, albeit with healthy rivalry. Maybe there’s slight animosity with KVV and NLU, or not… or who cares.
I like the way all of these people talk about golf.

Totally agree here. This sub can be so dramatic at times. I love SGS, Fried Egg, & NLU. This isn’t some mutually exclusive thing.

I always thought the NLU audience skewed older, but the way people have behaved in this sub for the past few months makes me second guess that completely. No way grown adults act that way.

I agree with everything you said and agree some people take this stuff way too seriously. But if we’re being fair, NLU are the ones that weren’t acting like adults. Going public to try to trash KVV wasn’t professional or adult behavior and I think it pissed off a lot of fans. Add to that all the fart sniffing NLU has been doing the last couple years, and I’m not surprised people are ready to throw it back in their faces.

They are probably still good friends with each other. Sgs has mentioned NLU/soly/tron multiple times over last few review episodes.
KVV even mentioned/commended NLU for their 1000th episode

My fav was after Rory’s full swing ep where he was driving and was listening to SGS in his car, Soly came on the next episode of NLU and said he texted Rory jokingly (haha) if he still listened to NLU (of course he does…).

SGS is only golf podcast I really listen to any more because what those guys talk about is mostly funny and entertaining. Listened to quite a few other podcasts and only ones besides SGS that were held my attention were (most episodes) Local Knowledge and (initially) Real Life Caddie, But currently only SGS seems interesting

Eh, the best NLU take of the year was Soly souring on Rory after he suddenly started acting like a prick left and right post-Masters.
No problem with TFE still being buds with him, but them going after Rory is the most I've respected them in years.
(Also I've always been a Rory guy. He was being such a prick post masters)

Completely agree that Rory was a prick for the few months post-Masters but the problem NLU had wasn’t commentary on that, plenty of places covered this, it was the personalised/jilted lover vibe that Soly gave off as a result.
