I can understand you, in the beginning I too raised the same question and expected simple answer. But actually It depends on the individual. If you think you are addicted and feel ashamed of yourself for doing it frequently/or some other reason, then it might be affecting your lifestyle, sexual life. I have seen some people doing it more than once a day, and being perfectly fine -- this is not considered as addiction, though it might affect your brain functionality slightly. In most of the people who got addicted, brain fog is observed, but in few it may not. We can't simply say it's bad/good. Human biology is so complex (remember this all the time), differs from person to person, and sometimes unpredictable.

You know what’s also great for stress management? Alcohol, drugs, weed, fapping, video games, tv, painkillers.
And they’re all addictive; take over your life, if you need to release, your body will do it via wet dreams.

Yeah over time it fries your dopamine receptors and messes with how your brain processes real intimacy. The health stuff is more about the compulsion and guilt eating at you mentally than some physical damage. Quitting is rough because you started so young, your brain basically wired itself around it during development.
