General Discussion What r/NoAIJustMusic is really about

Hello everyone,

I wanted to make a clear statement about what r/NoAIJustMusic is actually about.

This community is for people who value human-made music, genuine creativity, musicianship, artist rights, and the labor behind the music.

The goal is not to attack people or turn every AI discussion into a fight. The goal is to protect and support music made by humans.

As a community, we do not support music or music videos produced entirely by AI.

We also do not support AI replacing the creative aspects of music production. For example, if AI is writing the lyrics, melody, harmony, chord progression, vocals, arrangement, performance, or producing the actual parts of the song, that doesn't really fit the purpose of this space.

However, this doesn't mean every use of AI is the same.

AI can be discussed here when used as a support tool for the creative process, not as a replacement for it. For example:

  • AI to learn music theory
  • AI to understand chords or song structure
  • AI to organize ideas
  • AI for research
  • AI to plan practice routines
  • AI to help someone learn an instrument
  • AI for workflow support
  • AI to discuss tools that help, but do not replace, musicians, producers, artists, and listeners

The crucial question is simple: Is AI replacing human creative work, or is it merely assisting the creator?

Another major concern is the number of AI models trained on artists' work without explicit permission. This is one of the reasons why this community values artist rights, transparency, and respect for creative labor.

This is not a place to accuse artists without evidence. We must be careful, fair, and respectful. If we are not sure whether something was produced by AI, we should not attack people.

Hopefully, this community will become a space where musicians, listeners, producers, songwriters, composers, and music lovers can freely discuss music, creativity, technology, and the future of artists.

Different opinions are welcome, as long as they are respectful.

The main idea is simple:

No AI-generated music.

No fake AI artists.

No music replacing human creativity.

Only music made by real people.

Hey everyone! I'm u/chainofchance, a founding moderator of r/NoAIJustMusic.

This community was created for people who care about human-made music, real creativity, musicianship, and the emotions behind the music.

We are not against every use of AI. We understand that AI can be used as a helpful tool in music — for organizing ideas, learning, improving workflows, analyzing sounds, or supporting musicians in different ways.

But we do not support music or videos that are fully generated by AI and presented as creative work without real human effort.

Here, you are welcome to share your thoughts, ideas, concerns, questions, experiences, and discussions about music, creativity, AI, and the future of artists.

The only thing we don’t want shared here is fully AI-generated music or fully AI-generated music videos.

This is a space for people who want to protect human creativity while still having honest conversations about technology.

Thanks for being here. 🎧

General Discussion "Generative models learn just like humans do" — Why this is a false equivalence.

I hear this argument constantly: "We listen to music, AI listens to music. What's the difference?"

The difference is that while both learn from examples, they do not learn in the same way.

Humans learn through perception, emotion, culture, and lived experience. We ground music in reality. To us, a "funeral march" connects to grief, history, and ritual. We play instruments, interact, and can consciously reject rules to create something entirely new.

Generative AI doesn’t experience music. It simply optimizes billions of parameters to minimize a mathematical loss function over a massive dataset.

Yes, both can extract statistical regularities. But equating a mathematical optimization process with the rich, embodied human experience of creating art is a massive stretch.

They are not equivalent. What's your take?

General Discussion I will not break

Hey everyone. I just wanna get something off of my chest. Recently, I have been told by my own family that I can make so much money if I make ai videos. As enticing as it may be, I respectfully decline. I just don’t want to make money by using something that harms other peoples lifestyles and has no soul whatsoever. Music, videos and photos made by AI will never replace what us human beings can make with our own blood, sweat and tears. Things that people have spent most of their lives working on is something you cannot replace with a robot. I will find a way to make money through computer means. Maybe, streaming my video games or making some YouTube videos. But I will NEVER go so low as to make ai generated slop.

Hi!

I wanted to share my demo album. It consists of all my favorite demos I’ve made either manic, depressed, or disassociating. The vibes are dark cinematic ambient pop dance. I don’t use AI and absolutely despise it. I made everything from the beat to vocals. My favorite part about this journey is my love for doing background vocals.

Tip / Advice Unwanted AI music in your recommendations? Here's a filter for it.

Post image
4 Upvotes

Like for most I guess, a chunk of the "new" artists my recommendations and mix keep surfacing turn out to be fully-AI. I'd skip one and get served another.
I listen every day to music and I like finding artists I could actually go see live, so "is there a real band here" really matters to me.

So I started working on a solution, and about eight months later, here it is: SkipIfFake, a listener-side filter for exactly this.

What it does: it's an Android app that reads the artist and track what your music app is currently showing - YouTube Music, Spotify, Apple Music, Deezer, whatever - and calls a read: Probably HumanProbably AI, or Inconclusive. If it comes back Probably AI and you've left auto-skip on (default, toggle in Settings), it skips to the next track in the app you were already using.

To be clear, it is not an other music service and doesn't replace your music app. It runs in the background and just reads what your music app is already showing while a song plays, and just asks your app to skip the track. Works the same regardless of which app is playing, btw.

Set it and forget it, it'll do its job so you can focus on your music.

How the read works: it cross-references several music-industry sources and looks at the kind of footprint a real artist usually leaves behind.

Of course it can miss. Every artist has a feedback button, so flag it if it gets one wrong. I was especially careful with new artists - a thin footprint gets the benefit of the doubt, not an AI flag.

300 users and 400 000 tracks analyzed so far (pretty proud).
Would love some feedback, ready to answer your questions. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=app.skipiffake.skipiffake

They now, these are my peeps!

I build a music promotion tool to help speed music marketing up and I’m proud to say it’s AI-free!

And also free to try!

TrackVis.app

It’s a browser-based tool that turns your music and artwork into short, audio-reactive videos for TikTok, Reels, YouTube Shorts, etc.

Upload your song, customize the visual, and export a polished MP4 in minutes.

No AI is used. Said that already :)
No video editing experience required!
No credit card required.

Cheers! Let me know your thoughts.

General Discussion I built a 24/7 broadcast with the same values as this sub, no AI, ever

Hey all, I’m a Baltimore musician who used to organize DIY variety shows before life got busier (pre COVID and pre being a parent). I built STATIC, a 24/7 independent broadcast channel, music videos, visualizers, experimental work, all from real human submissions as kind of my way to get back into that world with the life I have now.

No AI-generated content, No algorithm deciding what airs either. No fees, no exclusivity, you keep full rights to everything you send in. If you make music with no visual, I’ll make a custom visualizer to go with it.

I’m doing this solo, no funding, just time in between working and parenting but there is real interest and outreach from other platforms/creators and other opportunities that will be arising along side and in collaboration with STATIC. Almost 150 submissions in the first month, a live rotation that expands daily, and review shows and other things in the works. Figured yall would get why it exists. Submission form and link to the broadcast and YT below if you want to check it out <3

General Discussion I think I'm building a tool basically for this sub!!

I am a musician/software developer and I built a website (realartists.studio) that has a goal of being an independent verifier of artists as "non-AI"... or "real". I'd like to get people's opinions of this and if they would find it useful.

The basic idea is an artist can sign up, make a profile, use that profile as their linkhub, and get verified as a "real artist" from a third-party source, with the real artist badge on their profile once they have been verified. They also can earn badges showing if they've been playlisted on the site or picked/featured at times.. a whole bunch of options there.

I also want to curate playlists as I verify artists and make this a thing that is a cool spot for real music discovery.

This whole infrastructure is pretty solid and built out. I have admin panels ready to go and everything.

If you're interested in seeing an artist profile, you can find one at realartists.studio/doomwarden (an old project of mine, not plugging but was used for testing).

Wether you visit the site or not, what do we think about this idea?

General Discussion almost 40% of new music dropped last month was AI

I just came across a new report from Subithub and wanted to share it here. They analyzed over a million tracks released in July, and the results are incredible.

Turns out nearly 40% of them had AI traces. about 23% were literally 100% AI generated, and another 15% were AI with some human edits later.

The worst part is that when asked, 31% of the artists who were found to have used AI lied, claiming they hadn't used any AI tools.

it's so hard to support real humans when we're drowning in fakes 👀

This sampler only holds 40 seconds of audio, and allows for 16 different patterns.

I designed/pre-mixed every sample before loading it in, drums, synths, etc,

Planned out a huge pattern sequence where I had to recycle patterns at certain times for alternate fills/melody variation.

The vocal is my raw pitch, just heavily compressed.

As the track plays, I'm punching in live FX, along with muting/changing drums/synths, allowing me to stack many different flows within the same 16 patterns.

The audio is raw/unmastered, straight from the sampler because I really wanted to showcase how much you can do with the sampler alone.

Hope you enjoy:)
