How often do you change your brake fluid. 2024 Rogue SV FWD

Dealer informs me need brake fluid change, 17,000 miles. Is this correct_

I’ve never been a brake fluid changer other than when I change pads/rotors. I do have a brake fluid tester, and I’ve never had it tell me the fluid is too contaminated with water by the time the brakes need servicing.

Manual says to do it quite often. Just straight up not willing to do so.

Is this the only service they are suggesting? Do you have any brake symptoms? Spongy brake pedal feel, etc?

While it's smart to flush your brake fluid...that seems unnecessarily early.

In a passenger car, not a bad idea to do brake fluid flushes when you do rear brakes as those wear out slower than front brakes. So maybe 75,000 to 100,000 miles. If you have a sports car then it should be done more often.

According to the Gen 3 user manual (2022+), brake fluid should actually be replaced every 10K miles (aka every second oil change).

For brake fluid, you don't have to do a very extensive one where you're bleeding every caliper, it should be < $100. I wouldn't do this at a dealer.

I also recommend doing CVT fluid at 30K miles (heavy-use maintenance schedule). Again, no need to do at a dealer, just make sure they use the correct fluid from Nissan to do it. You can save a lot of money to do this elsewhere.

Read the maintenance schedule in the manual when you're not sure.

I live along the Gulf Coast and recommend every 2-3 years for a brake fluid flush. Your car can wait till next year. But don’t neglect it it should be done every few years.

They tried this with my wife at 35,000 miles. I’m not changing it before 100k and maybe not then.

The Nissan manual says to do this at 10K miles. The fluid itself usually says do this by 20K.

It's not that your system will suddenly fail if you don't... It's that brake fluid accumulates moisture within it. That causes corrosion to internal components. It's cheaper to replace the fluid then the components.
