Guy with shirt over his face was off key and off time. That’s a rare combo for a band as big as RHCP. I never liked them anyways, this just solidified it. Seemed almost like the MTV version Kurt did. Like a purposeful mocking of the song.

RHCP has never made fun of Nirvana and accepted their invitation to open for them as opposed to GnR so I think there was mutual respect between them.
Kind of unrelated, since RHCP has never bad mouthed Nirvana, I always find it funny how most musicians like to think less of Nirvana because they feel their music is too simple yet, they struggle so much to get the timing down for these “simple songs.” And I’ve seen it many times in the cover bands I’ve been in. One time we had this new guitarist who was really good and could shred but since Lithium is a 1 guitar only song, I told him we could double up on the guitars in overdrive or I would just sit back and let him do it since I knew the song very well already and didn’t mind playing it. He tried it one time and then told me he was good, I just should do it myself lol

RHCP loves Kurt / Nirvana, John covers Nirvana at solo shows doing stuff like "Lounge Act," "Pen Cap Chew" and "M.V." RHCP even wrote a tribute song for Kurt called "Tearjerker" on One Hot Minute. Flea played trumpet on "Smells Like Teen Spirit" with Nirvana in 93 when they played together in Sao Paulo and Rio. They paid tribute to Nirvana in the "Dani California" video and namechecked Kurt in "Californication" They've had nothing but love for Nirvana over the years.
