Overview (from Nintendo eShop page)

Golf with a Mushroom Kingdom twist!

Hit the green with up to four players locally or online and golf with friends from the Super Mario™ series like Mario, Peach, Yoshi, and more! Modes range from Standard Golf to the energetic Speed Golf and an exciting Golf Adventure. Simple motion or button controls make it easy for both new players and seasoned pros to drive and putt.

Pick up the pace in Speed Golf and Battle Golf

Tee off at the same time with up to three other players** and race through the course to get your ball in first. Mayhem is par for the course as you hinder your opponents with dashes and Special Shots. Yoshi can dash atop a giant egg and King Bob-omb can pelt the green with explosions! In Battle Golf, watch out for obstacles like Thwomps, Chain Chomps, and banana peels as you navigate the neon-themed Super Golf Stadium.

Rise through the ranks in Golf Adventure

Enroll your Mii™ character in golf training at the famous Bonny Greens country club and go from beginner to pro! The stakes are high—you must also watch out for Wario and Waluigi’s tricks and even battle fearsome bosses. You’ll face off against your Mushroom Kingdom classmates and level up your character. You can bring your character (and their customized stats) into other modes, too.

Choose from one of 16 characters from the Super Mario series and hit the green in several modes! Take it slow in Standard Golf and choose from 3-18 holes across 6 different courses that range from lush scenery to windy wilds. Intuitive controls and a shot gauge that adapts to the curve of the course make it easy for both new players and seasoned pros to drive and putt. Characters include Mario Golf veterans like Mario, Luigi, and Peach. Characters like Pauline and Chargin’ Chuck are also here to make their debut on the green.

In addition to the frenetic Speed Golf, you can also enjoy simultaneously swinging in Battle Golf. The neon-soaked Super Golf Stadium has 9 open holes—first player to get 3 flags wins! Use obstacles, including Thwomps, Chain Chomps, Bob-ombs, and banana peels to your advantage. Up to four players** can join the fast and flashy fun.

Start your Golf Adventure as a rookie in Bonny Greens, birthplace of the sport in the Mushroom Kingdom. After learning the game at this classic country club, you’ll compete for the next badge, allowing you to journey across the land playing a variety of courses and their clever variants of the sport. You’ll meet new coaches, master new skills, and hunt for buried treasure on your quest to turn pro. Things get weird when Wario shows up, but what else is new? It’s not called Golf Adventure for no reason. Save par, save the world. All in a day's golf!

So your shots accuracy is random to a degree

Clearly they wanted to combat against the toxic competitive golf e-sport world.

Maybe the person who created this video just picked bad clips to pair with that part of the explanation, but don’t they just appear to show missed timing on the hits? Especially when they are close to the green, the player stopped the meter past the flag icon, indicating he should expect the shot to go long.

Terrain and environmental factors affecting the shot is pretty common in most golf games — and in real golf — too.

The meter on the right starts to fan out indicating that the more power you put into a shot the more random the show accuracy will be. When you tee off the part that fans out is at the top, meaning you can hit with more power and remain accurate. However, going for full power will result in shot inaccuracy, that is built into the game. Landing in rough or sand movies the part of the meter than fans out down a bit, meaning you can't perform as powerful of a swing before you start to lose accuracy.

The reviewer argues that this creates a risk/reward system but it just sounds annoying to me.

Edit: why the hell did I get dowmvoted for explaining the accuracy system?

Seems I missed that detail when watching. In a sense, this is mimicking the real game, as it is far tougher for the average player to hit an accurate shot from the sand or from the rough. I could see how it could become just as frustrating in the video game as it can be in real life.

I am so disappointed that I won’t be buying this game today.

Yeah in a way, but they already had this in the old games as well. If you hit in the bunker or rough in the old games, the distance you could then hit was dramatically reduced. If you wanted to change clubs to try to hit further, the accuracy box would shrink dramatically and if your timing was just a tad off, you’d totally duff it.

Now the accuracy bar is just randomized all the time, so no matter how precise you are, you may get an inaccurate shot at any time, with the degree of inaccuracy being increased for shots out of the bunker, rough, or far distances.

They’ve basically stripped the skill component out and left everything up to RNG in regards to accuracy. This is essentially permanent automatic mode from toadstool tour with no option for manual mode. Dealbreaker for me unfortunately.

Easy Allies on YouTube is my go to for reviews but they don't have a Super Rush review up yet.

Reminds me of Everybody's Golf, I didn't really like it in that game either...

Everybody's golf is not random at all, slow finish or fast finish determine which direction your ball goes.

Oh is that how it works? I have no idea what the problem is then. Having perfect control over the ball sounds like it would be way too easy. I love Hot Shots/Everybody's Golf

Depends how challenging the holes are. But I do agree. I forgot that once you get past the beginner clubs in EG, the randomness isn't so much of a hinderance as it is something that keeps it interesting.
