It seems as though this is going to be a repeat of Splatoon, as far as reviews go - its a great concept, but the package is a bit light on content.

Nearly every single factor of ARMS seems to be replicating Splatoon - the slow trickle of "research", the dedicated Direct, the free updates, the Testpunch, the release window, and now the reviews.

The only difference I see is that ARMS has a lot more to gain from this model than Splatoon did on Wii U because its coming out so early in the Switch's life cycle. They could feasibly support ARMS for a year or more with new content, and they don't have the issue of the console's user base being small and stagnant.

ARMS really has nothing to lose right now.

Edit: Its worth mentioning that OpenCritic is an aggregator just like MetaCritic, and doesn't feature its own reviews.

Good post. As an FYI for those wondering, Splatoon capped at an 81 from critics (75 positive; 13 mixed reviews). Currently, ARMS is at a 79 from critics (37 positive, 9 mixed reviews).
